Shouldn't an "Even Match" monster have an equivalent chance of killing you as you killing them....that's definitely not the same as Even Rank.

That's correct if you assume FFXIV even match. Here it indeed was supposed to be and even opponent in strength, not rank. In FFXI tho it does was level-based.
