    In-Game Screen flickers on PS3

I'm playing on the PS3. While creating a character and in-game, the image would randomly "flicker" in different parts of the screen. Each flicker happens just in a part of the image, like a part of the sky, landscape, buildings, characters, etc. The part of the image flickers to a different color and then back to normal. Different parts of the image are always flickering... it just changes from one part to another. And eventually, the screen goes black for anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes. But not completely black. The main menu never flickers. The popup dialogs never flicker. They look just fine. Also, names of characters that float over their heads don't disappear to black. And I can see the black shadows of characters and objects blocking names when the screen does go to black. I found it helps a little to prevent the screen from going to black by trying to continuously change the camera direction. If it's stationary, the black screen almost always appears within 10-20 seconds. Also, again, the black screen just stays for a limited amount of time. Sometimes its 30 seconds, sometimes its several minutes. I haven't found a way to get it to go off of black other than passing from one area of the world to another where it has to load the new area. Because I can see the popup dialogs, I just use the map and try to walk my character to one of these other areas to reload the page.

I checked for any display settings to maybe turn down the resolution or something, but I can't find this on the PS3 version. Is there anything that can be done? Is this a known issue? Help!!
