Quest Failure Buff - Given Too Soon?

So when you fail a solo instance for a quest (take for example the class quests), it gives you a beneficial buff on subsequent retries.

But why does this buff have to be given after even just a single failure? I've failed a few fights here and there because I missed some mechanic the first go around, but was never given the chance to retry a new tactic at full difficulty. I was simply handed an "easy mode" which was nowhere near the same experience as the first attempts in each case. I felt cheated.

This is really such a lost opportunity. Failure is something to be learned from, a chance for us to really learn how to best use our battle skills so that we're more effective against new foes in the future. Providing the buff after only a single failure is like giving us the meaningless gold star sticker just for showing up, and we walk away unprepared for challenges yet to come.

I'm not totally against the buff, mind you: I get why it's there, to make the game a little more accessible and less frustrating for more casual players. But could it maybe only be provided after say, 5 failed attempts instead of just 1?

Or at the very least give us an option to decline the buff if we so choose? (edit: I guess you can already do this, but some of the sentiment still stands, as I reaffirm in my reply below) I for one would like to challenge myself at the level the quest was originally intended and not be forced to complete it as a "gimme" if I just missed some gimmick the first time, while at the same time leaving the easier option there for people who don't care.

p.s. Sorry if there is a thread on this already, I tried searching for one but didn't manage to come across anything, so I created this one.

I believe you can click the buff off, so you don't even have to use it if you do not want.

    That is correct.

Yoshi-P is doing his best and is patching Endwalker. Please wait warmly until it is ready.

You know... that thought never even occurred to me... I feel like such a noob now XD Especially since I knew that you can click other buffs off, I'm not sure why I didn't think to try it for this one.

    Thanks for pointing that out.

Though, I still think it would be nice to give a couple more tries at full difficulty before just handing it out to those that aren't as aware of how it could better themselves if they can manage to figure it out before the buff, and without consciously turning the buff off.

It's okay xD No need to feel like a noob!!

I agree with you there, Myranda, but at least it can be clicked off if someone doesn't wish to use it and would rather continue trying to figure out how to defeat the duty before them all on their own.

I agree that it should take long to kick in, but I did notice that it took longer to appear in higher level content. I'm embarrassed to admit, but I lost the WHM 50 quest a few times (first time I listened to the npcs and let them deal with the enemies and focused on the objective. All the NPCs died leaving me to kill all the enemies and while I was dealing with them the objective failed, second time one of the NPCs was one-shot killed by the first enemy he engaged for one some reason and I let the bugged attempt fail). The "you're a wimp" buff didn't show up until my 3rd/last try.

I noticed the buff triggers when duty fails due to YOUR own death only. When duty fails due to an NPC death the buff didn't trigger for me.

The buff starts really small, and ramps up over time until you can it. At one point I let myself fail this one duty over and over just to see how strong it got. I went from doing very small amounts of damage (GLA) to almost half the monsters life in a swing. It might get stronger still, but I got bored of waiting since the ramp up is pretty long.
