[Feedback] Flawed Item System (Crafting vs Dungeoneering)

The item system and overall structure and how it will pan out is so flawed.

    Dungeon loot: http://xivdb.com/?wardrobe/1016/Darklight---DRG

    Crafted loot: http://xivdb.com/?recipe/1271/Darksteel-Chain-Coif

The dungeon loot has far more stats and requires hitting level 50 and getting a decent group to run a dungeon.

The crafted loot requires the extra effort to level a crafting trade and take the time gathering the materials to craft the item. The bonus is that crafted gear has sockets for materia. Even with the highest ranking materia, the stats are lower.

End result: Crafting is pointless at the moment (Unfinished/Work in progress) whereas you can just level to 50, do some dungeons and get full blue gear.

This system is so flawed. Where is the economy? Who will buy crafted gear? How do you think crafters will feel when they see this?

What are your thoughts in this subject?

stats will actually be higher than on the darklight armor if you can HQ and 5x meld materia.
in general, your primary stat (this case str) will be equal to darklight, but your secondary stat total (crit/det/skill speed/parry/etc) will be higher.

that being said, this crafted helm will cost approx. 2-3 times as many tomestones as the darklight piece so unless you have the materia to go all out melding it is not worth attempting to make.

to make it clear, the lvl70 crafted gear is better than darklight, not worse. however, it is also far more expensive.

imo (and this is just my guess) this might be why they also have darklight gear in all the same slots for cheaper. the darklight is for people who don't want to bother. the crafted gear is for hardcores who want to gear up to run coil now, or for people who are very rich.

keep in mind that the lvl90 sets are gated behind the 300/week mytho cap (and you use 900 to upgrade to relic +1 which locks out 3 weeks), while darklight and these crafted items are not.

Would you really want the best armor in a game buy-able? Crafted gear is there for those who would like an upgrade FOR the dungeon/raid needed to obtain even better gear. "Working as intended"

There should be layered levels of gear.

    Assume:

    A is the best
    B is 2nd best
    C is 3rd best

Raiding gear should be "A quality" but have a system where craft material drops so there is also a "raid-tier" of gear.

Dungeon/Crafting gear should be "B quality".... You can take the time to do a dungeon or level up a crafter. (Why not?)

Quest gear should be "C quality"..... The stuff you get for reaching the level cap. (And maybe low tier of crafted gear as well)

World of Warcraft has a similar system to this game, where dungeons and raids yield the best gear. Maybe a few patches there were crafted pieces which required raid drops. FFXIV uses this system but at the same time has a huge crafting system for nothing.

Perhaps you didn't read Promethev's post about the darklight costing less tomestones than the crafted armor?

    Totally agree.

Not only does it cost way more in terms of effort, the only way for it to be competitive is to HQ every piece, in which it does come out on top due to materia slots, but the requirements are just massive. I would love to see more craftable gear which is more competitive.

I think gear in this game is just too easy to get in general though.

As soon as you hit level 45 you get 4 pieces of AF gear which makes any crafted loot completely worthless until the ilvl 70 stuff.

The crafting system is so awesome but it leaves a lot to be desired when you can just get all the gear at the low/mid levels from quest rewards, and then late game get better stuff by grinding out dungeons.

The Dungeon gear is not always a "guarantee" that you get it, 1 person in my FC Is trying the get the battlemage robe and keeps getting empty handed. He saw it 4 times, only for 4 other people getting it first. That's 4 times it drop out of X amount of runs he did.

Dungeon gear is good yes, BUT you're not always going to get what you want as well. Sometimes you will need to rely on crafted gear.
