Thread: No EU server

    No EU server

    Dont know about others but i think that calling a server that is located in Montreal, Canada for a EU server is wrong

    Basicly there is only NA (Montreal) and JP (Tokyo) servers since those are the only 2 locations they got servers

    Ive made some ping test on different hours and it wary betwen 100ms up to 600ms on my 100mb fiber connection which is currently the best i can get in DK where i live

    In FF 14 there is alot of stuff you have to avoid during boss fight and trash groups and having a 0.1-0,6 second delay makes it harder than playing from closer to where the servers are located

    Im guessing SE doesnt care much about the few players they got on the 5 fully populated EU servers to spend money on giving those players the best possible game experience and connection performance

    I often see other ppl and myself move out of aoe before the marking on ground disappear and still they get hit by it and often result in ppl dieing and even a wipes

    While I do agree, mostly the difference isn't noticeable. As was mentioned in a different thread, a lot of the time it's people wanting to get in an extra hit before moving to maximise their DPS. I personally live in the UK, playing on PS3 and only have issues after 6pm due to my ISP, before that it's completely fine and have no latency issue whatsoever. It probably varies between people, ISP's and gaming setups but I don't think it's as big an issue as it could be and is most likely due to your ISP rather than the location of the servers.

    I'm not sure you're completely informed. In a game like FF14 - where reaction is key, a 0.6 second latency is a huge issue. However, there's a further point: It's been determined that this game checks and reports your position to the server at most, 3 times per second. Which means at the very best - your latency is going to be 0.3 seconds, coupled with the 600ms network latency, this is a massive 0.9 (300ms of that being completely artificial) sec, a fraction away from a second. Trying to dodge boss moves? In raids? with 23 other people? I guarantee its going to be an issue - and one that needs fixing sooner rather than later.

    "Determined", a.k.a told to us straight by the devs that the our position is checked once every 0.3 seconds, if anyone is wondering.

    Yeah i get hit by some aoes that i dodge and some appear undodgeable. Poor eu ppl,

    I notice that if i am instant casting while i am running i am much more likely to get by the aoe even if i run really far out of it. It happens with titan landslide aoe. Now i try my best to not instant while running if the boss aoe means death.

    This first bit is in blue because people seem to be missing it.

    The reason this issue hasn't been noticed much is because of the very long cast times in early game (Everything up to and including AK, but excluding Ifrit Hard), 600ms may not seem too much compared to a 100ms on a 2 second cast ability, its still plenty of time.


    When you enter instances with cast times closer to ~1 second (I am unsure of the exact value), like Ifrit or Titan, those pings mean an NA player will have ~0.9s to react and evade, and an EU player will have ~0.4s, less than half as long, subtract the time taken required to run outside the circle, and two more things happen:

    1. This is a fixed number removed from the two times, so it makes a larger difference to the EU, so rather than half as long, the EU players can find themselves in situations where the allowed response time is 1/5th or as little as 1/10th of NA.

    2. These delays make the response times required go below that humanly possible, and these instances very quickly become unplayable, and in case it is game breaking.

    Now server access has somewhat been dealt with, and considering SE's intention to develop dodging type instances, I believe this is on of, if not the highest priority fix in the game at this moment (closely followed by resistance debuff stacking overpowering melee class stacking). Game lag was the single greatest issue I had with 1.0, to clear Ifrit Extreme I know people that had to use MNK for fists of wind, this is no longer an option. It must be fixed.

    I'm really sick and tired of this topic and how freaking uninformed people in are regards to how ping works and what ms actually means... (I'll give you a slight hint: if you get a delay of 0.6 seconds you should definitely call your provider or completely redo your network)

    Man sucks for me playing on a Japanese server and never having these supposed lag issues. The only time I get hit by AOE's or whatnot is when I fail to get out of the way.

    I live in Canada BTW.

    It sucks not having your own servers. I live in Australia and play on a JP server, most of the time I sit on about 200 latency which is playable if your playing at the top of your game. I just did a run of Titan and couldn't avoid the lay of the lands so I checked, my latency was around 300. So I apologized to the group and was hit with. "FOREIGNER GO BACK TO YOU OWN COUNTRY, YOU SUCK, WE DON'T WANT YOU HERE!"

    It wasn't very nice =( I don't ever expect Australia to get it's own server, but this was just really lame to have receive such a horrible reaction.
