This is getting to be laughable

Its been a week now since I've actually been able to log in and play for more than 20 minutes. I'm allowed to play for 20 minutes with serious lag spikes, and then finally I get disconnected with an error code 90000. I have contacted my ISP (RCN) twice in the last two days and they explain to me that they are aware of the problem, however there is nothing they can do from their end. The fact that I am getting more information about a video game from my ISP than the actual company who made the game, is to me, a joke. The only response we've received from Squeenix is a moderator closing a thread and listing it as "resolved" when there are clearly thousands of people having this problem. If there are hundreds if not thousands of people complaining on the forums of this problem, imagine how many aren't even bothering to come on to the forums. How many players are you throwing aside? 5,000? 10,000? 50,000? I really enjoy this game, but this is becoming ridiculous.

Gonna be honest man I don't think this is their servers. While I do see a lot of people coming online to complain about this error in particular most of them seem to have local issues. Error 90000 is a disconnect from the server which means it's either something on your end or something on the server end. I've never actually gotten an error 90000 except once when my wireless cut out. All that being said if I had to gamble I'd say it's something local on your end. I work in tech support and I often have to call ISP's on behalf of my customers and in my experience RCN is one of the worst to call and get honest support. I'm more than happy to help take a look at your network and see if there is anything wrong right off the bat. If you'd like my help please either post here or hit me up with a private tell with your modem/router/wired or wireless and a speed test from whatever site you like to use I prefer speedtest .net.

Considering how frequently this is happening to you I'd bet you either have a router that's poorly managing it's firewall or your network has some nasty packet loss going on. You wouldn't see this as a problem with services such as Netflix so it's not shocking you wouldn't have noticed it until now.

the only times i have gotten a 90k error was once when my network cutout, and then once i got kicked out by the instance server when it was having issues. if you are constantly getting booted out, i would look into forwarding some ports or something, or getting your wires looked at. in ffxi, i would constantly get kicked out of the game, turns out that i had way too many things connected to my wireless router and it would constantly drop the connection for just a second (enough to crash the game). Buying a higher grade router 100% fixed it. If you have a bunch of things connecting to your router and you have a lower grade router, this could be the issue.

This is EXACTLY what happened to me. i had no idea i was overloading my router because i never noticed the tiny blip until i started back playing that overly sensitive ffxi

I've only got error 90000 like 3 times since launch. After their last maintenance where they said they would fix all login and duty finder issues all those problems have gone away entirely. I never have login issues anymore, never gotten d/c'ed and I've not experienced any lag at all since then. And I've been playing a lot, at least 5 hours per day.

So, my guess is that the problem is on your side, I haven't heard any complaining about stuff like this in the FC either since the servers came up from the maintenance.

Go on to the technical support forums, and check out all the other people having similar problems. I have no problem playing any other game online, so I don't know how it could possibly be my ISP. The only thing I could think of is if RCN is throttling the data for Final Fantasy, maybe its considering it to be a p2p program or something. However, this could all be solved with some minimal effort from SE.

Seeing as your main character is on Ultros and I'm on Ultros as well. I haven't really experience any lag except fighting in a large fate group. But really i've only been disconnected twice during the whole time I've played since Early Access (besides self disconnects, obviously.) I have been hearing that some ISP from a thread on here, that have been throttling the game like it's P2P software as I've not heard of your ISP, RCN, that could be your problem. I'll post a link to the thread once i find it.

I've been through the tech support forum numerous times and while yes I do see a lot of posts complaining about a lot of similar issues I'd gamble very few of those are actually server issues. Are they still happening yes of course. I'm not trying to invalidate what you're saying I'm merely speaking from years of tech support experience and it's my job to talk to people who refuse to believe it's on their end and I have to show them and fix it. If I had access to all my tools I could easily figure out for sure whether it's your network or square. Sadly I don't so I can only make assumptions based on your posts and everything there screams ISP/local network issues(which RCN won't be able to see).
