The idea i proposed was that when you went to the skill assignment menu there was a single box by itself that let you equip a Job like it was a skill and it had saved your skill loadout from the last time you equipped that job.

Then you got bonuses for when you equipped skills that were considered "Familiar" to that job Title. So a White Mage equipping Cure would get +MND and + Healing Potency.

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

I'm not going to respond to any fallacies since your example does not apply to this. I have played it now so I am in my right to make an opinion.
A difference in translation from Japanese to English, German or French is not an excuse for such an uncreative name in my eyes. You can talk about this all day, but do you honestly think red mage or blue mage is the best names out their to define what the classes irrespectively from the game's history or decisions are.

Again, there is nothing generic about Red Mage, White Mage, Black Mage, etc. They are unique because they were created by Hironobu Sakaguchi.
First of what do you want a discussion or just flat out insult me with baseless statements?
You don't need to emphasise anything since my eyes and mind are good enough to read. Thaumaturge can have a lot of meanings. Some litteraly interpret it as folding up of the earth. Others read it as miracle worker, saint or magician.
Now let's be honest and try to compare this irrespective from the whole FF lore and history with blue or red mage. Now if you were to name it that way people with no previous experience with FF wouldn't have a clue what it is about.
But fine if you add so much values to colors as a characteristic of class name, then go ahead. For me it just looks like a lack of inspiration, there are great names out there which can people inspire or encourage to try such a class. But there are already enough colors out their in the real world, so I'm pretty sure that people with no previous FF experience (of which I expect this game to be open to as well) won't get overexcited over such a dull name.

Black and White mage are really freaking hard to confuse even if you never played a Final Fantasy.

I think the main one that would confuse most newcomers is Blue Mage, but it really only takes one google search to know what it means.

As the first two responces from google are

    http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Blue_Mage

    and

    http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Blue_Mage

That maybe true, but first impression most of the time says it all. You shouldn't expect from every new players to do a whole investigation on their own before deciding what they are encouraged by.
And a good name can add to that, that's all I'm saying. I don't think new players give much value to an ordinary color as a characteristic to a class.
But now I'm just endlessly repeating what I have been trying to say.

I don't want just the name Black Mage I want the actual messy classes to be turned into BLM's and WHM's. THM and CON classes are such a terrible terrible unbalanced mess that I don't see any reason to keep them. All the melee classes are basically the same too.

I really don't see why people are making such a fuss over the class names. That they need rebalancing is true. But throwing jump and calling it dragoon isn't going to solve anything. Renaming gladiator to paladin won't fix anything, (isn't paladin a more advanced class anyway)?

Long as they don't include any form of blue mage, they can do whatever they want.

Yes. All of the current Classes are merely stepping stones. The problem is the way SE designed the game the next Step has to be forced by the Player.

Gladiator is a Sword User. But he has a bunch of stepping stones he can take from there.

Equip Healing Magic, Defense Abilities, and Shield Skills. You are essentially a Paladin. You tank.

Equip Subversive skills, enfeebs, and situation damage dealing abilities You are essentially a Thief. You Subvert.

Equip A mix of Healing Magic, Elemental spells, and Damage over Time Spells along with your elemental weapon skills. You are essentially a Red Mage, You ... do what red mages do. I'm not sure what role Redmage ever fills they are a hybrid they can litterally do EVERYTHING which is why they were always so popular and why a 1 Red Mage (3 dead white mage) playthrough of FF1 is so possible.
