    current english names in XIV.

THANK YOU... I mean the fact of the matter is people want features from 11 that will make 14 great... I mean does anyone realize that 11 is one of the best MMOs ever made? you cant just toss everything aside and expect the game to do well. Guess what they tried to do so and the game was a fail at launch..

There has to be a balance between old and new. As far as class names go im all for traditional names because people like it when SE recreates what people know and love from the series in new and exciting ways that's just the fact of any gaming company..

I find names such as blue, red or black mage personally kind of dumb. Since it doesn't say anything about the class. Thaumaturge has actually a meaning, maybe you knew that if you have bothered to look it up.
WHAT THE..... Ok dude frist yoshi-p say he be adding red mage, white mage , black mage back to the game with the new class system Red mage and black mage and white mage does tell your job

    White mage = healer
Red mage = Time mage, healer, warrior, black mage
    Black mage= DPS with Nukes

So get out of here it wont be a final fantasy game without the names.

Funny, the only way you can describe "red mage" is by going all over the place.

To the new person What does time mage mean? White mage and black mage? Could magic have a form of legality, like white and black hat hackers? Why are CLERICS put in the same nomenclature as WIZARDS? How come they aren't color coordinated? Why are red mages called red, are they perhaps related to ENCHANTERS, or maybe ARCANE WARRIORS? And that's not even going into blue and green mage. At least SUMMONER gives a good idea.

But this game is a Final Fantasy and all those names are Final Fantasy names.

My sword cuts through clothes and skin Like a hot knife cuts through snow I smile as the bastard screams When I twist my sword
Sword in my hand Axe on my side Valhalla awaits me Soon I will die Bear skin on my back Wolf jaw on my head Valhalla awaits me When I'm dead

Why make things more messy just because it's unique? The game still needs a dedicated healers (WHM), tanks (WAR) and nukers( BLM). Their purpose in battle is going to be the same no matter how you dice it but you still want to hold onto misleading class names? A nuker that can't heal and has weak physical attacks is still a BLM no matter what you call it in a FF game. If you want to name your BLM something else then please do so on Besaid in your RP group but all the rest of us should be able to tell you're a BLM just by looking at your gear and invite you to groups accordingly. (oh the last bit doesn't make any sense if you think of XI but anyway I hope BLMs are going to be more useful than in that game)

That line is drawn on the water. Final Fantasy is not so much about traditions as it is about experimentation. Context is especially important. White Mage, Paladin and Black Mage wouldn't have made sense in the futuristic FFXIII, so they were named Medic, Commando and Ravager instead. In Dissidia the classes are different as well. Warrior of Light is a "Paragon", Garland is "Nemesis", Onion Knight is "Mystic Fencer", Cecil is "Split Soul", Terra is "Esperkin", Squall is "Relentless Revolver" and so on and so forth. Yet what is important is how these classes are realized in-game, not what their name is. Very few FF games use the traditional names nowadays and even before, even if their primary purpose remains the same throughout the franchise.

Similarly, here "Paladin" doesn't fit the Colosseum-esque lore of Gladiator, nor does "Monk" fit the Gambling nature of Pugilist. It has to tie in with the context, otherwise it makes absolutely no sense. FF series has been exceptionally good at not having aspects in their games that simply don't fit in the lore.

Black Mage = Black Magic. White Mage = White Magic. I'll give you Blue Mage but the other two say more about the class than the current names....who the hell even knew the word Thaumaturge existed before this game??? get real man. And on top of this, FFXI didn't create those names, they've been in plenty other FF titles too. This said I don't really care for a name change but your reasoning can be better.

It doesn't make any sense to me. I know what dark magic means, because it supposed to be all evil and heretic like.
So what should I picture with red magic or blue magic?
All I have been trying to say is that I find the names a bit disappointing and vague and wouldn't recommend it for a mmorpg.

Thaumatuge- from greek, means "miracle worker". Attributed to those who perform magic feats.

This class has been used in many other mmos before this one, doomwing thaumaturge, tae ew thaumaturge, wow's thaumaturges, and...

Vanguard Thaumaturge- Quadav Black mage in Dynamis.

They are not going to change much in the Armoury System as it is now. They will be implementing a separate Job System to help people assign roles to themselves in a future patch.

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.
