But...but the guy in the commercial said they were in right now =(This totally is hipster game, nothing from the past was good enough so they make up new crap that sucks just as hard, and people defend it just like skinny jeans on dudes, I bet they are "pontificating on how to make the game better' instead of just arguing on an internet forum haha.
whoa i didn't say anything about the meaning of thaumaturge and that name fits, very well, I just said i like the name blue mage mostly because they are just really cool. Honestly the dev will now hear your opinion so... double thumbs
also i don't really have a problem with the names; just that i like the idea of a little more differentiation among classes. They had a good start with all these "innovative" ideas but what the frack happened they just stopped halfway through, a lot of this game is cool but some of it looks like it was thrown together at the last moment. Innovative is cool when it's done, when it's halfway done it just looks like junk.

What you find to be "dumb" has been part of the franchise, and the namesake for 25 years. You do know that this game is Final Fantasy XIV right?

I don't let the prestige of a franchise cloud my judgement. I just find it a lack of creativity and meaning to name classes by color.

Hence why you need to actually know the history and meaning behind the names.
http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Red_mage
Just for example. Where as a Thaumaturge for example? Even knowing the definition it doesn't fit in with the Japanese names.

First of all I don't need to do anything. Second of all sometimes it's good to have an outside opinion.
And I'm sure it wasn't Square Enix idea to isolate themselves by only being attractive towards people who know the whole Final Fantasy series from before. So no I don't need to know every little detail about Final Fantasy to have an opinion.
For some people not all to familiar with Final Fantasy names such as blue mage or red mage, it just seems like of creativity in naming. That's why maybe it isn't such a bad idea to introduce some new titles in this game. That isn't such a difficult thing to understand, right?
And besides not letting go of the old ideas isn't always the brightest thing to do.
Have you EVER played any other Final Fantasy? This is a Final Fantasy game, Final Fantasy has MILLIONS of fans... This is why Yoshi mentioned that this is under discussion.
Also, as the poster on page one pointed out... the Japanese class names are the MOST GENERIC class names ever lol... Gladiator in Japanese? No, it's 'Sword User'... give me a break. This is why I believe they will be changing the names.

So replacing generic names with other generic names is a good thing to do in your opinion? And I haven't said anything about names such as gladiator. I have only talked about the name thaumaturge versus names like red mage, blue mage, etc. So don't try to change my words or message.
ps: If you want me to take you seriously cut the capslock thing, it's really unnecessary..
I'm under the impression that the Japanese names for the classes are typical Black Mage, White Mage, etc...they just changed the NA names to "Americanize" them because we're all spam eating macho men on this side of the world.
1. The whole reason XIV is in a bad condition is because they ignored FFXI.
2. The Japanese names are as generic as it can get.
3. The Japanese names for the classic names (they existed prior to XI btw) makes a hell of a lot more sense than the current english names in XIV.
4. There's no Dark Mage.
