Too much reading, not enough going on during cutscenes

In many single-player RPGs, most of you are already familiar with the basic story progression: exploration segments with battles, exploration with story, story with battle, and so on. Mixed in with the dialogue there's often something else going on. Characters moving about, player-interaction with the environment, a battle sequence, or whatever.

During a lot of this game's story sequences, so far as I have noticed there isn't a lot going on (and I've covered a lot, right now quests are in the upper 30s range). Characters are standing around, and you're there reading what they have to say. It's not very exciting, in my opinion, and despite people telling me "the story is good" I have yet to find myself caring about it all that much. I WANT to care about it. I love the stories in RPGs, but this one hasn't grabbed me because the story sequences are just...kinda boring. Not all of them; there are some that are interesting. But not many.

I also feel that there is TOO MUCH reading to be done. The older (and arguably better than current-gen) RPGs didn't have this much, and were great. They're still great. This game isn't the only one guilty of too much dialogue (I'm looking at you, Super Paper Mario). And I know not everyone will be on the same page as me. I'm just here stating my opinion and hoping maybe enough folks will agree. Perhaps SE will make future cutscenes more exciting and with a bit less reading (and no I don't mean dumb it down to an elementary level).

TL;DR - Too much reading. Cutscenes aren't exciting. Click click click click skip text.

I started reading every third dialog box. I noticed the characters repeat themselfs a lot. Loving the game tho.

I'm personally quite into the game story, but I love to read.

I'm with echogame on this. Then again I read every quest dialogue, talk to every single NPC I find, and read every journal entry including the ones that are put there after completing the quest.

I want to know what RPGs you've been playing. Because proper RPGs revolve around having to read. Hence the rule: Talk to everyone. Also other than near the start and certain places (like a mission briefing), there are usually things happening in the cutscenes of profession/job quests and main quests. Like people running in with a sudden report or something.

I always briefly read over the text that is going on, but until the story changes from 'blahblahblah, you need to get stronger, blahblahblah, there is darkness that faces our world, blahblahblah, talk to that guy over there to learn new skills to be ready to fight the looing danger', I won't be reading it.

My complaints are a little bit different. I like the dialogue but I found the presentation of the quests from 1.0 a lot more exciting and intriguing with a lot more emotional significance. It's kind of sad that we may never see the end of the 1.0 tales unless they're planning to finish them further down the road. The crafting/gather quests in 2.0 were a bit lazy because a huge portion of the cutscenes revolved around the guildmaster stooping over a small table examining what you just gathered or crafted with the only cutscene involving a lot of action being the ones at lv. 50.

I read all of the main quest dialogue, though I skip some side quest conversations. Would have loved to see more voice acting though

Well, there's nothing that we can do just because you don't care about the story. I find myself absolutely loving the story, and I find the amount of reading to be perfectly fine. It's fine the way it is.
