Pretty much the variety presented in Final Fantasy: Tactics. That game was amazing and I can't think of a better way to make people feel class uniqueness then to have unique and amazing classes to start with. =)

YES PLEASE
edit:
although if you're going to have a class/job that uses items in battle as their main function, yeah..... that aspect of FFXIV needs a makeover first lol
Bluemage!!!

Gunblade class:
Strenths - able to inflict damage efficiently with both melee and ranged attacks, uses MP in ranged WS to fire elementally-charged bullets with add. status effects, can continue to fight effectively when out of ammo
Weaknesses - lower HP pool, favors lighter armor (think arc), Few AoEs
Example Skills:
Lightning round - Fire a lightning-charged bullet, dealing lightning-element dmg, has a chance to stun target
Freezing round - fires an ice-charged bullet, dealing ice-element dmg, has chance to paralyze target
Fire round - fires a fire-charged bullet, dealing fire-element dmg, can inflict burn on target
Quick Slash - Deals light damage/bind, character jumps back out of melee range
Hard slash - deals heavy melee dmg
Standard shot - deals ranged dmg
Guild loc: Garlemonde (since the empire is the only faction seen using them at this time)

i want samurai
Dance like you mean it !

^ who doesn't lol.
Fencer! with dual rapiers XD or Sky pirate.... with rapiers!
Any balanced FF classes at this point would be fine with me. What I DON'T want though is watered down BLM with a bit of everything in it.
I want my BLMs extra black and physically helpless thank you very much.

I think it's a shame to see so many people just want this to be FFXI-2 with the classes, personally I like the suggestions for some more unique ideas and ideas from FF games which were only in tactics etc.
