When and Where can I get Materia

I'm lvl.20 now and have a few pieces of equipment with materia slots. I'm just wondering how this is obtained?

North East of the Black Brush camp outside if Ul'dah is the quest giver. Should be mark on the map.

^ after mentioned quest you convert armor/weapons into it. Other way is to buy from market boards in main cities.

Thank you both. Is this part of the main story line quests (with meteor icons)? I've just finished the Copperbell Mines dungeon so hopefully I'm nearly there.

At some point in the main story, an NPC will tell you about Materia and give you a quest to learn more. Follow that quest to find out how to make it and and how to attach it. You need a crafter skill (any except culinarian) at 19 to attach Materia, and you will only be able to attach it to the items from that skill. For example, my leatherworker can only attach Materia to leather items.

I see, so it's part of crafting to actually attach it? I'll will soon see anyway. Just wanted to know if wasn't missing something.

To attach materia to items, you need the appropriate proff class and have the same lvl as the lvl of the gear. Attaching materia requires completion of another quest, given by a female in the same camp.
