    The attitude certain tanks have....

Doing cutters. One person is new. Party wipes 1 time on first boss. Downs it. Party wipes 1 time on 2nd boss.

    Tank rage quits.

I understand if we wipe multiple times on the same boss. If we somehow did something wrong like run ahead. Or if we insulted you in anyway.

However, when you have such poor armor that healer runs out of MP, when when a Black Mage 1 level lower than you can pull aggro and has to stop in the middle of the rotation so you can catch up, and when everyone is acting very nice towards you... and doesn't say anything about your tanking, you don't get to just leave without saying a word leaving 3 people hanging on the queue for 20 mins.

Never-mind I guess you do... I wish there was a Duty Finder blacklist.

    They are holier than thou.

But a lot of people don't have patience, and think everything should be perfect all the time, which i don't understand with the game being so new, there is going to be a lot of new players that need schooling!

The problem is you got primadonna tanks from WoW and other MMO's where they get a trillion emnity just by being there basically. On the flip side you also have DDs that think they can just unleash hell even before the tank is up there, Healers that think they can just area heal everything. People need to realize that this game works differently.

At the end of the day, people don't like to be wrong. I'm very apologetic when i screw up usually - I try to do my role to the best of my ability and to master it. But even then occasionally I make a bad choice things go tits up, someone chews me out for it and my first instinct is to get defensive even though I know that they are right.

It depends whether people get confrotnational about it, or whether you have that touch of self criticality so you are your own critic. A lot of rage quits i think are generated by people being loudly critical or outright offensive, instead of remaining calm, analytical and carrying on with a modified plan.

As someone new to tanking I would appreciate it if people offered me advice and helped me out during battles. A lot of dungeons have bosses that I do not know the techniques well, and I don't like people assuming I know what I am doing right away because I am the tank. I understand that as the tank I am the "leader" role and should be the first one rushing into battles and keeping all the enemy hate, but if there is something I need to be doing - don't get mad at me for not doing it, let me know. Take the time before or during the dungeons to discuss a strategy. I don't automatically know the best place to stand when pulling the boss, or when I should kite or focus on adds. If we rush in without a plan and die very quickly - and nobody is helping with a strategy or knows what they're doing - then yes, i'll leave the party because I don't want to damage all my gear and keep wasting my time.

Sometimes, communication is your friend. I often want to give tank advices, but rarely will they listen to their healer. Or worst, some of them just don't answer at all. They get in the dungeon, start pulling, die because they obviously had no idea on what's happening, then blame everyone else...

But yeah, it's one in a hundred. So no big deal, most of the time, people aren't jerks. You really just have to communicate with each other.

I would appreciate it if DDs focused on my marks and if everyone didn't run away if they accidently pull something. Running does nothing but lead the monster out of my range. Stay close enough that I can shield lob/provoke it back please.

    tanking 101

several things in regards to tanking....
    1) always turn the mob away from the group so they dont get frontals
    2) always tab target thru all the mobs and hit each mob with a threat gen attack to keep threat on all targets
    3) always keep an eye on the healers mana before you pull dps mana doesnt matter
    4) always make sure no mobs are hitting your healer if they are hitting dps its ok
    5) if a dps decides to unload on a mob before u grab aggro then let the dps tank it, trust me he will learn real quick to let you do your job
    6) just remember this simple rule when your analyzing whats going wrong in your party....

if the tank is dying a lot you got a weak healer or an improperly geared tank
if the healer is dying a lot you got a weak and/or improperly geared tank
if a dps is dying a lot then that dps is an idiot just let him die

its dps job to check their aggro and watch their damage, a good dps will know how skilled or unskilled their tank is after the first 5 minutes combat

I remember when I first started playing warrior in ffxi, it was my first MMO, I had absolutely no idea what I was doing, I didn't even know what the term "tank" meant. One day I got a party invite to the plateau (ah the memories) and I just started auto-attacking like I had been for my first 8 or so levels. The party told me that I was the tank and to provoke the enemy. I didn't want to because I was afraid to die, but they then explained to me about the healer role, and other party rolls etc. I trusted them, and it all worked perfectly, and I was seriously hooked at that point.

Skip ahead 10yrs and now we have this, where people yell at each other rather than help (not saying the op yelled at the tank, but I've heard of this in other posts). Plus this game doesn't really teach new players party rolls, so how is anyone supposed to learn before they are thrust into a dungeon and expected to do their job? Help, not hate will make this game great.

I don't mind wiping under certain conditions.

People need to be willing to take constructive criticism and advice.

People need to improve. If the same person keeps making the same stupid mistake I eventually will give up with frustration.

Also If I am allowed to make the pull, I will keep aggro if not I'm doing something wrong. If your tank is pulling and loosing aggro he is doing something wrong in my opinion.

If those things are happening I will glad stick around and help my group work through things, but unfortunately with instant queues they would rather eat the 15 minutes and be a bad person. I find that most people in the game are awesome though and work together.
