I'm a healer 90% of the time, but from what I've seen a lot of healers will hardly ever touch Esuna and Stoneskin. So instead of mitigating the damage in the first place, they just heal through it, which adds to the hatemonster.

Up until Longstop I would have said that the good parties vastly outnumbered the bad ones. That changed quickly. The problem I encountered was bad tanking. Tanks were not managing aoe enmity or establishing enmity on every mob. One cure and I'm tanking all of the mobs the tank isn't focused on. I can only wait so long before I have to cure someone. If I try sleeping them myself, that's time spent not healing and if there are more than 2 I'll be dead before they are all slept. I've died so much in the last 3 days it's been ridiculous.
I have such respect for competent tanks now (and competent players in general.) I just had an awesome DF in Longstop healing as SCH. I was nervous about it but everything went incredibly smoothly thanks to great teamwork and an awesome tank.
yup pretty much this. I've only had a few tanks that can hold agro on more than 1 mob. They get to 70% throw out 1 cure and bam got 2 adds beating on me.
I've not had problems with the hate system as either a healer or tank.
And re: DPS who want to tank their own mob or wake up slept mobs, I agree with what others have said. I nicely ask them once to my do that. Second time, let them die. You can get away with that in lower dungeons but when the enemies start hitting like trucks, I can't have my focus pulled away from the tank or turn myself into the tank for all the healing I'm doing.
But many of us are still learning the ropes and every new dungeon beings new challenges. Patient people who take the time to explain things are always the best. If people are trying their best and listening, then we can work with that. I'm always open to people offering help.
People who don't listen or are rude and condescending when things don't go well are an entirely different matter.
My problem is:
Paladin 50
I start a boss fight as follows:
Shield oat > shield lob, provoke, flash, enmity combo, flash, shield lob and so on.
Where the problem pops up is before i can finish that combo usually the scholar or the whm will have accumulated more enmity then me, the dps, and the second tank in 8man.
We are talking in the first 3 casts a heals build more threat then tanks and dps do in 30sec.
MY only guess is that because my vit and str are not = but have a gap i may not be doing enough dps as paly, but still its crazy.
I think Longstop is also the point of the game that separates the boys from the men. The game stops holding your hand around that point and everyone (not just tanks) has to stay on top of their game and communicate to get ahead.
As a healer (lvl 50 whm lvl 25 sch) I noticed that the threat to heals were great and wanted to complain but then I took a closer look. My last party at stone vigil. The PLD was not using flash. At all. I had to note that when the smn said sorry i tried to get it off of you i said its ok he has flash. The PLD replied, whats that? Ok told him about flash its aoe emnity ability and that he should use it immediately upon grabbing a group of mobs. After that he only did it once allowing me to whm tank the remainder of the 2 mobs midway through first battle.
To end we literally could not make it to the end boss because I died entirely to much because the PLD... sorry gladiator he had not unlocked paladin, done any job quest, but we had to quit because it just wasn't worth it. I may have been rude but I told the guy for the love of all the parties that are to come please do your job missions and rerun a few dungeons so you get used to tanking correctly.
Thats just how it works you kill off the support first then take down the rest. Healer is always the primary target of the enemy even if you haven't done anything to pull aggro, the mobs will come for you first. Unless a dps or tank have done something to get its attention us mages are gone to get it. They fight the same way we do. If your grabbing hate mid fight from the primary target then that just mean your healing more damage than your team is dealing out.
Thats my opinion on it anyway. Its seem to work that way base on what Ive seen in my 41 levels of healing.
