The storyline quests don't require much effort either, to be honest. Oh sure, every once in a while you actually have to think (primal fights, for example)... but usually the storyline quests are just solo FATE's for all intent and purpose. And they give just as much XP, to be honest. Heck... what I would end up doing (before the wellspring that is storyline quests dried up due to approaching the end of the storyline) would be follow the storyline quests to a quest hub, pick up the storyline quest and all subsequent side quests... do them all in one go, then turn them all in at once... rinse and repeat. The Costa del Sol area, for example, netted me 100k for about 30 minutes of actual questing. To put that in comparison, I spent an hour grinding FATE's in Coerthas and got 190k xp.

The only advantage FATE's have over storyline quests (and side quests, for that matter) is they are repeatable... whereas the quests are not. From an XP gain standpoint, they are about equal.

what do you mean "worth" doing?

what is "worth" doing for you may not be for others

to me, running dungeons is more fun then running fates

i dont care how much xp i get an hour, i care if i have FUN getting xp

I'm level 44 and I do what I think is a pretty even balance between Coerthas FATE grinding and Stone Vigil (curse you, Ancient Sword!!!!). I prefer FATE grinding because of the GC seals... but I also like doing Stone Vigil because it gives me Tombstones. At the end of the day, however, you do whatever you want to do.

I disagree with the idea of nerfing FATE xp. If you want S-E to nerf that, might as well have them nerf storyline quest XP while they are at it, since from what I've seen, FATE's give out as much XP as a storyline quest... for what amounts to just about the same amount of time and effort. But yet, I don't seem to see people calling for a nerf of storyline XP. Strange observation there....

I prefer FATEs for exp/sb when my LS isn't on leveling stuff. Running dungeons past Longstop in PUGs gives me a headache.

Leves aren't really that bad but I save them for crafting.

This is also why there are so many garbage high-level players, is because they never actually learned how to play the game.

    Armoury Bonus

If you are realizing this because you're trying to level a class that you didn't start with, they actually get bonus exp in relation to the level gap between the side class and your main class. This bonus experience only applies to slaying monsters and doing Fates though, and this is done specifically so that veteran players don't completely ignore Fate events and so that they actually succeed most of the time. The random nature of Fate events make it difficult to farm though, making it so that doing Hunting Logs and completing quests are still a far better use of time while a Fate event isn't near.

Guildwars 2 was the "new kid on the block" at the time they were working on ARR while maintaining the 'standard' set forth by WoW.

How many of you realize that the storyline questies are dried up by lvl 45-47? Yep. If you leveled straight up, perhaps were adverse to the Fate thing, one might find making 49 harder without Fates/Dungeons. Yep. I'm 48.5... My Hunter's log may get me to 49. But after that... a whole 500+k has to be grinded from some other source... And I find the Fates to be terrible. The Whole Northern Thanalan Fate system seems to be the answer and a great big curse. I have had no luck there while apparently others have.

What choice will I have? Either a dungeon, my Leves (Thankfully maybe I have over 70 now), or... Fates will allow me to get my single first class to 50. What will my secondary, third, ect classes have to do to level? That's right.... grind. IMO... there weren't enough quests.

This is why we needed high level beta test too during beta, so we could locate all these issues (FATE disproportionate exp gain, AK speed runs, etc) and they balanced them before the game's launch.

Beta 3 was the perfect opportunity to do exactly that.

I hope there is a hotfix soon, probably will come with the summer event.

I like the idea of fates being desirable. Games which require dungeon grinding to level up quickly ruin a key aspect of the game which is populating the zones. I don't want a game like WoW where everyone sits in a city waiting for a queue pop.
