More like people play non-stop to get 50 in a week :P. I'm 34 SCH/SMN in 2 weeks and leveling just seems to get steeper and steeper. Just my opinion
Edit: but you are right, "certain FATES" do need to lower the exp count.

They wanna be, the Very best. That no one ever was~
To reach Lv50 is their real Test, To rush there is the cause~
Final Fantasy! Gotta rush it all~
It's funny, because if people did dungeons from 41-50 instead of only spamming FATEs, they'd have enough Stones for 2-3 (or more!) pieces of Darklight by the time they hit 50. Seems like a bit of foresight can go a long way here.
Levequest can give a lot of XP too. Only if you complete them faster and on harder difficulties. I Earned over 5k and gave me a whole level up on a low level character.
Not many know this now due to how not many people have their first lvl 50 yet but Leves are given a huge EXP bonus boost once you get your first lvl 50 class/job to help level your other class/job not level 50 yet. This turns leve into the 2nd best way to gain exp but the best way to gather Gil.
Also if you think FATEs give a lot of EXP now, once you get your first DoW or DoM to lvl 50 all DOW/DOM class/jobs will be given a +50% exp boost from FATEs if they are not level 50 yet.

Only downside is that due to leve limit per day the methods you can use to level another DoW or DoM is...
1) Fates due to +50% bonus since you got your first lvl 50 already
2) Killing enemies +50% exp bonus for any DoW and DoM not the same level as your current highest class. This brings back the old school kill enemies for exp grind but it is a useful method as you wait for another Fate to pop up due to the +50% exp bonus. The Kill Chain exp bonus also boost the exp gain process.
3) leves are fast when you can use a lot of them but once you burn up the amount you can perform it becomes slow since you must wait for your leve allowance to recharage and stck up again.
4) dungeons is last place since finding groups is slow. Exp would be fast if people didn't have to wait so long for a group.
You have to know how humans act. If one way of leveling is better than others, then someone will always claim it gives too much exp or is the only way. In reality it is simply the fastest way and you have plenty of options.
It will be next to impossible to make every action in FF14 give you the same exp/hour rate. Because you can't give all classes equal killing speed and then claim they are DPS, tank, healer. You can't calculate the speed all parties will progress through a dungeon. And of course if you are trying to equalize things you also can not reward people for doing better than others since their exp instead needs nerfing so they should redo it to match the time investment of other groups.
It will be easier for yourself and everyone, if you accept that some classes and some events will be getting more exp/hour.
The problem I see though is that levelling is so fast in general, even moreso with FATEs, that once someone completes a dungeon once for their story, there's no need to go back to it ever again. Sure the dungeon gives exceptional gear for its level, but the problem is that those levels can be completely bypassed in a few hours by running FATEs with subpar gear, or even no gear.
Honestly, gear can be completely bypassed until level 50. There's no community pressure before level 50 as far as gear since everything can be solo'ed easily with subpar gear. The only real solution is to nerf FATE xp into the ground and force grouping and drastically increase levelling time, but the MMO community as a whole outside of FFXI have deemed that unacceptable over the past 8 or 9 years. So we're kinda stuck in a situation where levels 1-49 are stupid easy and fast and content is disposable and meaningless.
The real game is at max level I guess.
I'd like a significant boost to dungeon xp and also some open world "elite" type mobs that require a balanced party to grind on for good xp. FF without grind just feels...wrong. Grinding xp is horrible after like lvl 10.
