Same here i've been trying since before maintenance 24/7 on behemoth, its a pretty poor setup they have running here, first mmo where i cannot play with friends
It's funny to me that SE doesn't take a page out of their own history books. Anyone remember world passes from FFXI? If you don't have one from a friend, it dumps you randomly onto a server that isn't packed full. If you did manage to get a world pass from a friend, you can play on the same server as them. Also, how about opening up some free voluntary server migrations to some worlds that just opened, or aren't packed absolutely full? I'm sure plenty of people would be willing to hop to a less crowded server that way.
Im hoping that is what they will do... but in the mean time. Are you guys just waiting or are you leveling a character on another server? If we end up having to wait a week and theres free transfers we could be level 20 or 30 by then easy.. I dunno what to do..grrr
This is just so frustrating! I was up most of the night taking short cat naps between server checks, hoping and praying that Cactuar would open up. No dice.
I hate that I've been trying since I got the game at PAX to get into the server that my friend and brother play on, but cannot. And there's no telling WHEN server transfers are going to happen, so just playing this great Massively Multiplayer Online game just ends up being a single player one without your buddies.
Square Enix, I know that you are working hard to get things fixed and prepared for folks, but I would rather know that I have to wait in some sort of queue to log in than not know if this weekend is going to be spent doing the same thing. Waiting to see if I just might get to create a character.

I think this restrictions will be removed after they add more servers next week, YoshiP went to PAX, and there is an Interview in IGN where he says that next week a lot of servers would come, this week patch was to test how many ppl they could manage in one single server (thats why they only added 3 servers and they added 2500 more to the population per server). There is also another translated post that is in the forum, it says something about what are they planning to do this and the next week. I think I read it in general discussion the first thread.
I am completely unable to make characters on the NA RP servers (Balmung and Gilgamesh, per http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/ ), and have nothing but one random test character from the betas on a server where I have no friends. My job keeps me busy enough that I'm not making a career out of trying to get a character spot on a server where friends are.
SE made exactly this same mistake in the original FFXIV launch. I remember the same frustration. They have learned ZERO from past mistakes when it comes to server provisioning and operation. I realize their company has had layoffs, is under new management, and is no doubt is short of funds. But really, too cheap to even TEMPORARILY LEASE enough backup hardware for contingencies? That's a newbie mistake from 1999 (when EQ and AO launched without sufficient hardware or backups, and no uiser-friendly software solutions for overflows).
Frankly, I'm giving up and going on to other games for now. There are plenty of other great MMORPGs out there in beta, and plenty others that have moved into F2P and worth a second try WAY before this game, which just takes your money and delivers nothing but frustration. Maybe I'll come back when SE gets their server operations together, maybe I won't. I've just "had it" with their ineptitude.
HILARIOUS

I'm still amazed that this is even occurring. I have never seen an MMO lock out people from creating a character on a server that is otherwise running and playable. Add to that the fact that some of these servers haven't been unlocked at all in days, and the situation is terrible. I imagine a lot of players are simply leaving over this, which is bad news for the overall longevity of the game.

I don't think Hyperion has been unlocked since the game went live.I'm still amazed that this is even occurring.
