I've started a new series of my 'Lets Play' gameplay and commentary video episodes to help you see what the game's like and decide whether or not it's for you. (In a similar vein to my DC Universe Online, Bulletstorm, Rift, Guild Wars, Portal 2 and Saint's Row 2 Let's Play series..)

Part 1 of my 'Let's Play' gameplay and commentary in the MMO, Final Fantasy XIV, by Square Enix.

In this first ever episode of our new Final Fantasy 14 series, we begin by taking a quick look at the various races and classes available to us, as well as a brief tour through the character creator. Once we've got our new character, we dive right in to the start of the game, choosing our home city (out of three choices) and entering into the main story as it unfolds in the city market, right at festival time.

Part 2 of my 'Let's Play' gameplay and commentary in the MMO, Final Fantasy XIV, by Square Enix.

In this episode we begin by taking a further look at the game's UI elements and functions, as well as some more of the game's core systems. Most importantly, we're taken through the opening storyline as it unfolds, beginning at a festival in our starting city of Ul'dah where something goes horribly wrong..
After having to quickly learn about the combat system, we finally end up out in the 'real world' where we take a look at the questing system, the functionality of the Adventurer's Guild, as well as an explanation of player stores.

Cool! I don't remember all that helpful information when I went through the opening quest months and months ago. It's good to see the game being a little more friendly there. But wow...two episodes and we're not even to guildleves yet.

Part 3 of my 'Let's Play' gameplay and commentary in the MMO, Final Fantasy XIV, by Square Enix.

In this episode we're finally joined by my special guest Paulina (aka 'xxwhispers' from YouTube) as we take our first steps outside the safety of the city and set off to Camp Black Brush - an outpost across the desert plains of Thanalan. Along the way we gain our first taste of open-world combat as we face off against a number of strange and wonderful creatures, before finally reaching the camp where we learn about Aetheryte Crystals and how to initiate levequests.

Part 4 of my 'Let's Play' gameplay and commentary in the MMO, Final Fantasy XIV, by Square Enix.

In this episode we're joined once again by Paulina (aka 'xxwhispers' from YouTube) as we continue our journey through Thanalan. We begin by taking a look at how to equip new skills, before picking up our very first Levequest from the Aetheryte crystal in Camp Black Brush. After explaining how these levequests work, along with the various UI components that appear as a result, we head off to clear the local area of pests. We also cover off the 'TP' skill feature before discovering how to use Aetherial Nodes. We then head back to the city of Uldah and briefly explain Guildleves, Battlecraft and Fieldcraft Leves before I continue our main storyline quest.

Part 5 of my 'Let's Play' gameplay and commentary in the MMO, Final Fantasy XIV, by Square Enix.

In this episode we're joined once again by Paulina (aka 'xxwhispers' from YouTube) as we take a wander around the northern area of Ul'dah, including the Easter questgivers, before heading back to Camp Black Brush to initiate a Levequest for hunting Spriggans. Once we've cleared that, we take on another, which has a slightly less 'alive' outcome for myself. I also gain a new skill in the process.

Part 6 of my 'Let's Play' gameplay and commentary in the MMO, Final Fantasy XIV, by Square Enix.

In this episode we leave Lina Cin (Paulina) for a spell while we concentrate on our Single Player storyline. We start by taking a quick look at how to change jobs (classes or professions), using Botanist as an example, before speaking to one of our questgivers. After we catch up on the story we're asked to mimic some expressions by F'lhaminn so that we can calm some troublesome miners who are causing a fuss. Once we've helped the situation we take a quick look at the 'Easter' themed quests available to us.

New Episode Posted: Let's Play Final Fantasy XIV - Part 7 - Scratching The Surface

Part 7 of my 'Let's Play' gameplay and commentary in the MMO, Final Fantasy XIV, by Square Enix.

In this episode we continue along our single-player storyline, firstly meeting up with F'lhaminn at the gates of Ul'dah to escort her to Camp Black Brush. We make swift work of the chinchillas that try to interrupt our journey, only to come across an unfortunate situation at the camp that has us observing some of the fallout from the incident that occured at the Ul'dah parade. We then head back to the city only to discover that a disaster has occured at the local mines, and that somehow it seems tied in with the child from the camp and her father..
