Paid Name Change

I'm wondering if there will be, at some time in the near future, a paid name change?

With the introduction of these Phial of Fantasia potions, I'm wondering if they'll soon allow people to purchase both those and name changes from some sort of online store, similar to that of a server change?

Phial seems a little silly if you used the random name generator.

Personally, I just used it to change minor details of my character like a slight change in hair colour and adding 5 to my height.

Changing the appearance of your character is a bad thing?
I don't think it is, if you don't like the services available simply don't use them.
Both games offer a chance to transfer worlds and change your appearance, I don't see why charging for a service like this would matter to you.


You should be deflecting your 'anger' towards games that are 'Pay-to-win', where weapons and Armour cost money.

Unless you have some other method you'd rather people use to obtain 'Phials of Fantasia'?

You are aware that offering services such as name changes, appearance changes and -maybe- obscure pets allows SE to make a little more income and produce more content, right?

Or does that make me a "wow kiddy"?

Well you know Zadawn, while I agree with your sentiment against "cash shop items," they're certainly not going to give us the ability to change our character names byway of in-game money. Same with Phials of Fantasia. If there was some way to earn them or if there could be some way to potentially earn an item like that, I'd be all for it.

But seeing as most games (if not pretty much all MMOs) don't allow that without some form of account purchase, I'm asking for a way. So you have no interest in using said item, that's great and I'm glad you're secure with the character you've made. Not everyone will be and it will have little to no bearing on you what-so-ever. So I don't see a reason for it to not be available.

It's not like this is some mount, in-game pet or gear for purchase via real money. It's a race & name change.

I'd like to see this too, especially if they eventually make the phial of fantasia purchasable as an optional service as well. As great as the phial is, if you use a gender specific name, follow the official naming conventions, and/or give your character a name that fits their look, it may as well only allow for smaller changes such as to height and facial features (as hair, eye color, and face paint will be changeable with the upcoming barber shop).

Some people may not like the idea due to fear of "ninja looters" and jerks running off with their FC's stuff, but IMHO that won't be a big issue if the name change has a decently long cooldown and isn't priced too cheaply. Also, I would like to point out that name changes do not remove you from "follow" lists on the Lodestone.

I hope not. it makes people be able to be do naughty things, and get away with it.. with a simple name change!
