If you're in Hellbender bubble, sometimes you can't damage it because it will say "Target is not in range"

I entered an in progress one yesterday, and i got into an empty one, with the way past this boss blocked, and one empty bubble, no boss. Couldn't damage it at all, didn't say out of range, just no damage could be done to it.
