If a game has gold (or gil in this case) as the primary currency then there will always be a demand. Especially in games where gold/gil is hard to accumulate like this game seems to. Sadly I know many people who have resorted to dealing with these RMT organizations in order to save much time. As said, other gaming devs have found ways to make their games undesirable to these farmers by regulating their currency themselves rather than leaving it open season...
Anyways, no matter what filters/mechanics you put in to combat spam...those spam bot operaters will find a way around it quickly.
The real question here is SE even interested in finding ways to deal with it? I mean most ported MMOs are almost always spam heavy and seems to be an accepted practice that some devs plain out right ignore. :\

I dare to disagree, because SE has combated spam very effectively in FFXI. I hardly see spam tells/shouts/yells at all, and even when I do see the odd tell it's written in a way that's almost impossible to understand, so to bypass the filters. E.g. using variety of symbols/numbers to replace characters and things like "replace # with bro, replace %% with ".com"" etc. With a filter like that, I'm certain that the tells I'm getting now in FF14 will be 100% filtered. It still muddles me why they didn't bring such an effective system into FF14.
This is a serious problem. I was chatting with a FC amte while one my way to Ul'dah, and when I entered Ul'dah his response got sent out of the chatbox in 5 seconds. I wasn't able to read it and had to exit Ul'dah and make him repeat it while I was blacklisting 4 different people for Gil Farming
Some days in Goblin, it's bad. I also have blisted 40 people in 2 days. I ended up submitting a report on all 40 at once. 42 people technically, but two have been deleted since. The chat has been so bad, it actually lags the chat box when rolling through. Its usually 2-4 people spamming shout over and over in rapid succession.
