Dropping it to at least 2 would be nice. As well as the addition of a Hell of a lot more skills and a richer combo system.

having GCD is a good thing, on some skills yes, but some skills should be looked at Again and see if they should be removed from GCD list, to make combat even more smooth/fast, for GLD shield smash(skill that need a block befor it can be used) when you use that skill it dont cock up your combo list but it will eat up a GCD instead, if a skill like that can be removed from GCD playing GLD will be so much better, and i am sure other classes have 1-2 skills that could be removed from GCD.

No, we do not need faster combat. What we need is combat with at least a little bit of depth. And less cheap battles to go with it.
For me combat feels sooooo slow
Cant speak for other jobs, but would love to be on 2.0GCD on my Paladin...
Paladin propably suffer most as its main combo only have 3 GCD skills and 2 OGCD with rather long cooldowns, Titan HM is good example where you can literally play whole fight with one hand assuming all skills are binded on mouse, or just click as there is plenty of time to do that too. Tbh this is first MMO for me where atleast one of 2 tank classes can be played as an clicker due lack of skills coupled with long GCD while still being rather competitive at sametime, but on the otherhand my Bard and Dragoon feels pretty fine in terms of combat speed.
Also i kinda dont get that "long GCD gives me time to plan my next move" argument, all fights are scripted so that pretty much kills the need of planning when you will know what bosses will do next. Anyway i still like this game even tho it has its flaws here and there, but i would be lying if i said i wouldnt want this to have action-combat with need of aiming and where you need to watch boss emotes to know what its going to do next like it was in Tera(too bad EU servers blows and UI is huge resource hogger so its next to unplayable in its current state).

a good example of why the GCD needs to be changed on SOME spells
boss does a aoe that puts a dot on everyone(that dot will do some 1000+ damage at my level over 30s), your dispel debuff is a 1s cast 2.5s gcd....so nothing for 1.5s and another 2.5s to cast a heal so 5s of no heals going round....seen my tank go for from full to 10% in that time.
SOME abilities need to be adjusted, overall I DO like the 2.5s. and indeed I do get a 20% hp heal at 50 for Etherflow charges that IS off the GCD. But some abilities need to be adjusted across ALL classes/jobs depending on what they do.

Cooldowns and recast times are necessary, and a short "global" cooldown is a good idea so the game isn't spam-spam-spam. HOWEVER, it should not replace the recast time of a skill; it should only serve to separate the preceding skill from the one after it, and to that end it should be very short; all individual skills should all have their own recast/cooldown--not just the off-GCD ones.
The GCD in XIV seems to be trying to fulfill both purposes--the "recast" of a skill, and that separation between abilities. Therefore it is too long to feel comfortable as a separator, and too short to require any meaningful planning/strategy when using on-GCD skills.
Just my two cents. ^^;

The GCD is perfect. Not too long and not too short. Forces you to slow down enough to notice more of what is going on and think but still keep things going at a decent pace. IMO
This is funny because i find alot of tanks above lv 40 having a hard time keeping aggro and using flash.

The GCD is a good time. It adds some difficulty to the gameplay because you can't spam abilities.
