Aion, Guild Wars 2 etcDisagree, learn to weave in your abilities not tied to the GCD at the right times and you'll find you'll mostly always have something to be pressing. I actually like how it is a lot, feels more Final Fantasy.
Edit: As a side note, when's the last time you played an MMO with such detailed and fleshed out combat animations? I like being able to watch them instead of staring at my hotbar.

Unless you're a PLD. Pretty much all of our non-GCD abilities are reactionary. I wish there were more non-GCD abilities that could be used proactively across all classes, but overall I don't mind the combat system.
This is true. I can't remember any MMO that had so many abilities on a global cool down. Or if there was a GCD, it was short and very specific.

WOW does, and my warlock has a lot of active spells and most spells are on a GCD, for destruction spec, your GCD can be 1 sec or less, and its not mindless spam, only unskilled players play like taht, skilled players can handle 1 sec or less GCD while picturing what happens ahead. sorry, 2.5 secs is a cop out.Unless you're a PLD. I'd have to side with you on your WoW comments. Though.... I think the 2.5 GCD in this game, is in place for the players who use controllers. It would be fairly tough to consistently and effectively manage a 1 sec or lower GCD on a controller. I think it's just the trade-off this game had to make to "fair" across all platforms since they all play together.WOW does, and my warlock has a lot of active spells and most spells are on a GCD, for destruction spec, your GCD can be 1 sec or less, and its not mindless spam, only unskilled players play like taht, skilled players can handle 1 sec or less GCD while picturing what happens ahead. sorry, 2.5 secs is a cop out.
In terms of WoW, the GCD in that game was just right for KB/Mouse controls, and the pace of the game itself. One of WoW's overall highlights imo.

WoW's combat is clusterfuck. I don't want to see FFXIV combat turned into that... FFXIV is a lot more skill-based because you have to know what abilities to use at what time, healing with the 2.5 second GCD is a lot better than WoW healing. I prefer to challenge myself than to spam mindlessly.
It's fine like it is Thanks
Trust me, when you'll get to end-game, you'll thank god you actually have a 2.5 GCD. Also, tried playing a MRD ? Mine is only lvl 18 and I mash buttons like crazy.
In this game, you actually need to pay attention to what's happening. I've been playing MMOs for more than 10 years. I know exactly what you mean by "a shorter GCD". I was actually like you when I first started playing. But then, I started leveling, I gave the game a chance. And I've been very surprised !
And if you want shorter GCD, just roll a PGL/MNK. You will mash buttons.

in later dungeons and content, you'll barely spam your skills
it's all about dodging and positioning

Seriously though lol. There are time's GL is up and it feels like "oh crap oh crap oh crap!" haha. Never a dull moment. Lot of fun.Trust me, when you'll get to end-game, you'll thank god you actually have a 2.5 GCD. Also, tried playing a MRD ? Mine is only lvl 18 and I mash buttons like crazy.
