Lol Troll. A feature that was already planned to be in the game isn't a compromise, it was something they wanted to add at the start but didn't have the time to do so.

i really dont remember if they had originally planned to add a search feature, i think they did so because people wanted it. They wanted players to create the systems and rules that made the wards make sense, but then they realized that was really hard to start up, so they created guidelines via names and taxes, the search was basically them giving in and making market wards very close to AH.
I honestly really dont see why its a problem now, you can find whatever you want.
to the above guy, hmm 2 minutes, maybe i load a lil faster, interacting is basically equal to going to shop for me. so really its just load times.
I dunno takes me just as long to go to an npc and buy something because i basically have to do the same thing, look online, find where npc is, go to npc location, which is usually farther, may even be only in a certain city or guild. and it probably only has one item i need.
But no one complains about npcs, maybe because they can have a fixed location you can find, and they always have the items.
Maybe the game still does have a demand for player owned shops, cause that could solve that issue, but it would still need advertisements.
anyhow they can give you the ah, but they definately need to tax you for the convience, and if its instantaneous, that tax should be pretty decent.

They wanted the market wards to be a 'market battle'. We wouldn't have things like customisable stands to draw attention to our retainers if SE was just going to add a search feature to negate the point of that customisation.
Search feature was a response to the demands of players and a way of meeting them halfway.
Difference of opinions really, I just like to have a certain amount of convenience when I play a game. Instead they implemented a design originally to try and battle against RMT (so they wouldn't have the same AH problems as they had in FFXI) and to make something totally player driven, yet a the right type of AH is 100% player driven. FFXI's silent bid system made it easier to be abused and something more akin to WoW where you have bids/buy-it-now options and can't see the items history (makes players depend on YG which I still use for my retainers if I am unsure about an item) would be better overall.
That way it is player driven and people use the fan sites (which SE fully supports) to make the Economy not whack. It would be similar but would make a lot of players happy and future players happy. A lot of people was turned off from FFXIV from the start when they read no AH. It is one of the expected things that come in all MMOs these days, delivery system and AH. Sure we don't absolutely need one right now but I am saying I really would like to see one in the future and would really like if we had both. Then everyone could have their pie and cake at the same time.

Just enable purchasing from the item search counter. Most problems solved for the time being until they can come back and develop it more later.

My vote is yes, we need an ah.

I'm also in favor of adding an auction house system.
Oh one thing, once the materia system comes how can an AH work. The whole point of it is for crafters to customise gear?
If anything like XI AH'ing a materiad item would probably strip it off it's materia much as it did crafter ID's in XI. Even if not I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to catagorize materia effects in a AH setting either...not that I'm saying we need one or anything. Just saying it wouldn't be impossible to have a sorting system for individual items on a AH either.

I still don't get what an AH has more releavant than a Market Ward. I mean... IT'S THE F*CKING SAME THING!
Don't drop things that are awesome and place something repeatitive and boring out of the blue!
