Rested XP resetted when learning new class

Character Name: Zeruel Otomo

Race: Hyur M

World: Coeurl

After being unable to log in for 2~3 days prior to the data center expansions, the character gathered a lot of rested xp (2 or so levels. Was 27, got to 28 and still had full bar of rested xp bonus).
Since main questline took me to Limsa, I decided to learn the classes from there...and lost all my rested xp. All of it puffed away because of the new classes.

Well - that's because each class have it's own progress in leveling so quite logically the rested bonus is not transfering between different classes. Just to be sure what you exactly mean - is it gone after you switch back to original class with rested bonus aquired?

It is transfered between classes, so if you waste it on one class, other won't have it.
Nevertheless, it shouldn't have just puffed like OP described.
