Report extreme offense using the Service Desk > Harassment option available to everyone in game and blacklist the player. A vote to kick option would be great just to immediately solve the problem as it happens.

That said, people really do need to be able to handle these situations. Yes, the person spewing nastiness needs to be more mature, but also remember that part of being mature is learning to handle people being assholes, as well. If you are too young (in which case, parents shouldn't be letting the kid play unsupervised) or too emotionally sensitive to do that, maybe MMO's aren't for you.

I don't believe in coddling. I'll try to help folks grasp mechanics and encourage them to blacklist the offending party, but that's the extent of it. Report and move on.

Make an option for duty finder to queue as shard only.
The problem will solve it self that way.
Rude players will end up being blocked by about every one they party with.

Since the game is not about alts they will just end up playing with each other.

Thankfully I haven't run into this as of yet on DF, but if I do, I'll be pretty sure to do two things:

Send messages to the others in the group asking if they would like to try this with someone else.
Leave instance and add them to friends list and attempt a second run with someone who is capable of playing the game without that type of attitude/language.

Hell, I don't care. I'll be the first to leave and take the penalties. It'll be better then sitting around and listening to someone that I refuse to have any time for. Oh, and if I remember I'll be sure to screen shot it so that I can post it somewhere so that the problem can get handled, name unblocked.

Duty finder is increasingly becoming a playhouse for these folk, attacking any player, new or old, not just for their performance or ability, but going as low as attacking race, gender, sexuality and god knows what else. They are not just 'trolls'.

What should the devs seriously be doing about it and what should we as a community be doing to combat these individuals?

Outside the MMO bubble, these people could and would be charged with criminal offences for their behavior, so why are they getting away with it online?

We should not be burying our heads over this, as it will have more impact on the playerbase than RMT, login issues or otherwise.

Devs, I would be really grateful if you could make it clear what action is to be taken.

I love this game, please don't let people ruin it, but more importantly, don't stand on the sidelines and let people get bullied when everyone can see it happening.

Let's get together and kick these people from our realm.

I posted this earlier today, shortly after seeing the image from fusionx at gamerescape on twitter (sorry to implicate you pal!). I have read some good stuff here, some good points of view. Thanks to all that have supported my view that abusive shouldn't be tolerated. Appreciate the others that took time to post too. No point having a discussion if it's one sided. Gotta get the balance right.

TL: DR Really, I just don't like seeing people getting away with abuse, call it bullying or whatever you want, especially when the game is rated 12 and there are kids about who haven't yet learned to deal with trolls.

It's that simple.

There are some great posts in the thread talking about what can be done, what should be done, who's responsibility is, if anyone's.

I'm glad it's been brought up, hopefully these people will soon be ignored, blacklisted, banned or laughed at.

Seems to me he was just being a baddie, the off tank during HM Ifrit has one job, Shield bash Eruption and not stand in fire, to quote Geico, it is "so easy a Caveman can do it." The fact that he stuck with you after 2-3 wipes to the same mistake is far more than this one would have done.

That being said, people need to be diplomatic all cussing out a derp does is make them more derp, everyone is trainable if you put in the time and effort...

Well I commend your efforts but they're futile. These generations know nothing other than greed and stomping on others to get it, it is the way of the world. Negative reinforcement is their answer to everything and as far as they're concerned that's just how the world is as long as it doesn't effect them it doesn't matter.
That being said, nothing short of physically beating them down and showing dominion over them will change that (Millitary life is a prime example) alas, there isn't much we can do. I wish you the best of luck

Thank you so much for posting this you brightened by day, the guy being 'abusive' was funny as could be. To be fair the guy he was talking to DID only have the one thing to do, stay within melee range of the boss and press shield bash when eruption is being cast which would make the fight hell of a lot easier.

I honestly wouldn't call it bullying more so someone raging at a bad player who isn't understanding their role in a fight after having it explained to them.

Yoshi cmon mate you really need to add the vote to kick option to FFXIV since people don't like to play with bad players who don't understand mechanics and cause wipes, and also players who have bad attitudes.
