GP and Fishing... what is its function?

Haven't quite figured out the point of the GP stat for fishing.. the tooltip literally states that gathering, "affects the rate at which items are gathered" but I don't see this affecting fishing at all, it's not like you lose most your fish, I catch just about everything and its only in rare occasions that I lose the fish, so what exactly does this do? Should we just go all out for perception and forget about it?

As far as I can tell Fishers don't use GP. They have no abilities in which it is used. Probably similar to say Dragoons having MP. With the abilities I have set on DRG, it is never used. So I think Fisher just gets GP because the other DoL get it.

GP is useless for fishing. Gathering and perception are the only two stats that matter. The higher your gathering, the more likely you are to catch fish. For example, I was fishing in a level 50 hole, and catching a fish 95% of the time. I took off my body piece, which significantly lowered my gathering, and that dropped to around a 75% catch rate.

GP has no real function, but I still equip the +GP necklace, earring, wrist, rings, and get the spiritbond to 100% and convert them for nice gil. Rince & repeat.

As far as I can tell Fishers don't use GP..

but yet it's interesting that my Fisher Shirt AF HQ has GP+3 stat on it
