I have a request regarding a particular feature of the cross hotbar for controller use. There are currently 3 options on how to select your skills - Hold, Toggle, and Mixed. I think this is great, but I have a suggestion.
I love the Mixed option. It offers the fluid controls of holding down L2/R2 to select your skills and being able to move. It also lets you just toggle the skills open if you have a particularly long, dull fight, or if you want to use the hotkeys for a crafting or gathering session.
However, I am having many situations where I only need to use one skill (activate Sprint while moving to another area), and the hotkeys get toggled on instead of switched. I only needed to hold down L2/R2 for a moment to push the skill one time, but it was fast enough that the game thought I toggled the hotkeys instead of just held down the button.
This is a huge problem if I am a tank. I need to use a rotation of aggro skills on one monster, change targets, then use a rotation on the second target. If I accidentally toggle the hotkey because I only needed to hold it for a moment, I accidentally use other skills bound to my D-pad instead of switching targets like I expected. I have wasted self-heals, limit breaks, and other long cooldown skills this way.
Other examples include using fast one-time skills like a shield bash to interrupt an attack, but accidentally toggling the hotkeys on.
It's not just a matter of wasting skills, either. If I sprint, start running somewhere, then try to target something as I run, I might pop up my Warp list or Return window. I also cannot close the window until I toggle back out, which goes against my initial reaction of pushing "cancel."
Please change the "toggle" input to a double-tap of the button, rather than just a short press.
Alternatively, if a skill is used while L2/R2 is held down, do not toggle hotkeys on, no matter how short of a duration L2/R2 was held down. This way would ensure that people would not accidentally toggle, and keep the single button press as a means to toggle.
