As long as the nerf to FATE exp was slight, people would still do them for seals. Also, after the main storyline is done, unless you're good at playing the markets, I get the impression that gil becomes hard to come by, so some people do FATEs for gil, too. However, seals and exp are the main attractions of FATEs.
