    What is FFXIV lacking?

Of course, FFXIV has its issues with core mechanics such as the UI, battle system and class system... but the biggest thing to me is that this game lacks atmosphere. I'm sure a few of you will have seen this video before, but the feeling you get watching it reminds you of the amazing things FFXI had that gave the world LIFE.

This game lacks life, and I would sacrifice the HD graphics in a heartbeat to get the art that is found in FFXI.

    Give this video a look:

I was going to be mad at more whining about what FFIV needs, but I completely see your point. I know this is far from the top of the list but I hope they look into the little touches some more.

There's really not much one can say about this. FFXI had an incredible atmosphere which participated strongly into creating a unique community, despite all its flaws. FFXIV won't ever be the same as that game, but we can only hope that as content is added it will obtain its own memorable identity...

I think this game will get better over time. That video is showing parts of the game that showed up years after the release of the game, isn't it? If I'm not mistaken it started out as quite a small world.

Once they start to expand on game content with in-depth art, you might start to think better of Final Fantasy 14. Maybe even consider it a better game. We'll just have to wait and see.

Yes, the FF11 atmosphere is still the best i ever seen (i logged in in LaThein Plateau only to have a walk in that awesome place.. my fave ever). And that video is always so awesome to see.. I think also FF14 could become something like that with some works. First of all on the old zones (like mentioned in the other "bring to life" thread). And when they'll add new zones, they could work much more on atmosphere and to give true 'life' at the enviroment. Hope to have the same sensation of that video in ff14, one day.

Funnily enough it's missing most of the things that make a Final Fantasy game.

I agree. To be honest they had it in mind but I think struggles with other things must have forethought this?

Anyway, the biggest thing is lacks for me is Something To Do. Imo right now there is nothing, I log in and there's nothing I can go do. (I'm not interested in making numbers bigger).

FFXIV lacks a lot of stuff, and FFXI had nice atmosphere, but one thing to realise is that 90% of that video is just a character standing in front of a moving background. If they want to give us 'atmosphere' they should maybe take some cues and ideas from the good thread we have on this forum, and not from FFXI. (Sorry to say).

I think watching a video like that kind of brings out the nostalgia, but maybe not the true memories. A lot of FFXI was mining just to get gil, and camping NM spawns just to get gil, or gear. And even the airship and boat rides became tedious after the third time. Eventually, you didn't feel like waiting around for 15 minutes doing nothing.

Anyways, I could make a better video than that from just the stuff in FFXIV and set it to one of the myriad of amazing songs from the FFXIV soundtrack, and I might actually do it one day.

True, if I need to go to San d'Oria, as a WHM, and if I have time, I always Teleport-Holla and WALK there, while enjoying the atmosphere in between. Sadly, in 14, I DONT have any mood to do this, since it is so boring.
