    Scratchy shadows on character models?

I've been noticing weird shadows on my character models ingame as well as shadows from certain angles; I was wondering if it was an engine problem or a graphical setting I'm missing. For reference: http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b282/sadron/FFXIV_1303519026.jpg
The shadows on his chest and my character's eye as well. Was hoping someone could enlighten me.

It's an effect that every player experiences while they have character shadows turned on from the in-game graphics configuration menu.

You can suppress the problem by fine-tuning your graphics settings (outside of the game). The weird shadows are less noticeable at higher resolutions, and some people claim that they go away with certain levels of anti-aliasing (16xCSAA), although you may find that your PC can't handle the specifications necessary. Turning up shadow quality helps as well.

The other option is obviously to turn off character shadows entirely.

Yeah, there's not really much you can do about the weird blocky shadows besides turning everything up. Even that will give you blocky shadows every so often as well (especially in the character creator). It tends to not look as bad once you're in game, though.

It is like that for me too. But it is because I play at 2x AA. Higher settings will make it look better, but as Grit said, your PC might not be able to handle above 8Xcsaa. I know mine cant.....

Can you actually play at 16xCSAA with good framerate?
