This has stumped me, too. I inevitably chose nothing.

I know you can level them ALL up, but I'm under the impression that this will be cost prohibitive.

It helps to level up a craft that will be useful to your favorite battle class. Not only will you be able to make stuff for yourself, you will be able to repair items yourself which will save a lot of money in the long run.

Armor and weapons are good places to start and enjoyable, but I think if you are concerned about making money or leveling, alchemy and culinarian are the classes to take. They're all consumables, so there will be a persistent demand for them. Alchemy makes hp and mp recovering items, but culinarian provides players with buffs to their stats. The buffs from food are comparable to top-tier gear, and while you can only have only 1 food effect active at a time, it is difficult to imagine end-game raiders not to stockpile them for that extra edge in achieving server firsts (who wouldn't turn down a slotless +22 to spell or skill speed, plus 2 similar boosts to pie, vit, dex, etc). The extra xp boost from well-fed means you'll be able to level your classes faster as well just by eating your own crafts. I'm just not certain how the market will respond to food items yet though.

That said, goldsmith is an enormous benefit for crafters as jewelry is the only way to increase your max cp for crafting. Fishing benefits culinarian the most and is marginally useful for the other classes. Botany and mining are gathering classes that will help every other craft class except culinarian. Hope that helps you make a decision.

that was a big help. Right now i am wavering between Botany and Mining, as both have interesting focus. Fishing also is something i really want to try as i love the idea and plan to just to it for the fun of it. I have neglected the idea of food boost to XP and will remember that, as we do get some nice food items. Do they last more than one use btw? i wondered about that but was too lazy to go looking thanks for another very useful thread, lets keep adding to this one as we can.

this depends on your gaming philosophy. personally, as i am just trying to use this game to entertain me for a long time to come, so im just gonna level everything, and since im gonna do that, i will most likely level all the gathering classes first, then the crafting ones, so i could get my own materials when i need them.

Food items are consumables so they're only single use I am not certain if you can craft multiple of the same item with one craft though. I do know alchemy makes multiples of certain potions per craft at least.

As for which gathering class, it is entirely your choice. In general though, mining is better to get materials for equipment whereas botany is for consumables. I have mixed feelings about fishing though. I like the fact it makes you explore the map for fishing spots, but I don't like the randomness of the fishing.

As a side note, get +perception gear to increase your chance at hq gathers. +gathering is best for increasing your chance at normal gathers.
