    BEWARE OF SCAM E-MAILS

I recently received an e-mail that looked extremely legit. Yet it's contents were a bit over the top.

Here is the e-mail I recieved. Yet as per what this e-mail says; I am logged in and have not been disconnected at all. DO NOT click on the links in these e-mails no matter HOW real it looks. I also received this e-mail on an account that does not have a FFXIV account associated with it.

I'm sorry but this is not something that should be taken as a joke. Hopefully by reporting your comment it'll get removed.

Um, it looks normal to me, lol. Have you tried logging in? If it won't let you log in, you have to go reset your password. This happened to me during the Beta.

Please read the bit below the image. I am logged in despite what this e-mail says. Also I received this e-mail that DOES NOT have a FFXIV service account attached to it.

Assuming that this email is in plain text (as opposed to HTML... which seriously, go change your settings right now to plain text as your default) all of those links are legitimate. Can you change it to plain text (or just hover your mouse *DO NOT CLICK* over the link) and it will tell you where it is trying to really send you. If it STILL says "something.square-enix.com" then it is most likely legit... dunno how they have the wrong email though, you sure you never gave them that one in the past... like... ever?

On a side note, you can also double check the email headers (a bit more complicated and involved) and see where it ACTUALLY came from. Matching up the email address with it's sending IP address and then check an open database (I like robtex.com) to see who owns the IP. Still not fool proof since you can spoof the IP as well if you are REALLY good, but most are too lazy to take that route as it is more involved.

The e-mail might seem legit at first. But 99.99% if the time they are in fact Phishing-mails. If you ever receive a mail containing a message that your account has been locked due to suspicious activities, never... and i mean NEVER(!) follow the links listed in the mail.

First of all, try to log in to the game before trying to do anything else. If you really get a message that your password is incorrect or your account is inactive, open the FFXIV client and click on the support or account button there. Those buttons will direct you to the proper site where you can verify what happened to your account.

Another way to see if the mail is legit, is to hover over the hyperlinks to see what the actual URL is that is hidden underneath that text. If they are not the same, even if it is only one letter, delete the mail immediately.

Credit goes to Niqo'te for her fabulous art in the "Nique's happy fun time!"-thread and Nix/Capa for the Caitlyn drawing to the right. \(^_^ )/

Ahh, I knew it was only a matter of time. However, I did not think it would start happening this quick.
