possible server transfer options

So, a friend of mine purchased the ps3 version last week before they pulled it from the store and, of course, he has not been able to create a character on my server ( Excalibur). I get that this is a crazy crowded server, and my friend understands this too, but if he ends up creating his character on another server and waits for a server transfer, do you think there's a possibility that non-legacy characters will not be allowed to transfer to legacy servers in the future? I know there's no rule against it now, but I guess I'm just wondering because that info would greatly influence whether or not my friend gets to play the game anytime soon. Thanks for any helpful info.

Server transfers are gonna be opened up, pobably after this game starts charging. No date off of the top of my head though.

Also, the only restrictions in place for the forseeable future is Legacy players to non-Legacy servers-- if your friend moves to Excalibur, Legacy or not, it's totally allowed so long as max pop isn't hit-- this isn't the max logged in at any given point, mind, just server max, so chances are it'd be fine.

you can create chars in legacy servers... and so far what I understand is that legacy players cannot move to a non-legacy server for the moment. I don't think there could be any reason why a non-legacy to move into a legacy.

I'm in the same boat (er, server) as you are, wanting a friend to play with me. We have no reason to believe that characters on new servers will be restricted from transferring to the Legacy servers, in theory. But I think the problem may be with this little caveat:

Due to fluctuations in World populations, certain Worlds may not be available for transfer.

Excalibur is unfortunately one of the more crowded servers, so I would not be too surprised if it was unavailable for at least some time. But who knows? Personally, I am considering transferring my character to a less crowded server to play with my friend, either a JP one or perhaps Sargatanas as it seems the least packed of the NA Legacy servers. I'm sure Excalibur will be available for transfer at some point, though, it is just hard to tell when since only SE knows just how crowded it really is.

Does anybody recall if, on the wold transfer, Excalibur was packed? I know it was pretty full, though it wasn't Aegis full. (it and Masumune were locked, right?)

I've been thinking about this for a while. Most MMOs show generalized population on the server screen (low, medium, high). It would be tremendous help, especially since most don't actually read dev posts or the forums, if they would show server population so that people could make informed decisions with their selection. Other than trial and error, how do I know which server my friends and I can move to and all be together.

I hope they open up transfers soon, seems not right that new players can join our servers now but friends that started elsewhere can not without having to start over (and some just dont want to do that). So please SE, reserve spots on the busy servers for transfer people? Theyre flooding atm with goldsellers taking their spots .

All great responses, thanks I suppose its the uncertainty that's killing me. O well I think I'll just advise my friend to get started elsewhere and we'll figure it out. All else fails, we will both pick a less populated NA legacy server. I remember someone saying Excalibur is the reddit community server (never going to not be crowded, lol)

I REALLY with they would implement the buddy pass system from FFXI. Force new players to whatever server they want to but let us hand our friends a code to get on the server. It is really annoying having my brother and a friend both waiting to play because they can't create a character with the rest of us.
