How are you managing the maps and finding where you need to go for quests? I notice that the map doesn't have edge cursors to point you in the right direction. Only the compass has this, but it's not able to zoom out much, compared to the window map. It's hard enough as is with the keyboard and mouse, to select the mini triangles to switch to the connecting map in the map window. Do you find it difficult to go back and forth within the maps window and the main screen? Plus reselecting the quest on the side bar to get the quest icons to show up on the main map window.

I'll walk you through step by step.

Press Square to open the map, if you do this while standing still, the map will become opaque, meaning you can't see the game through it, like when you're moving around. Once the map is open(And not transparent) hold the L1 button, and move the right stick up and down to zoom in and out. If your quest objective is out of your current zone, there will be the golden Q next to the appropriate zone where the objective is.

Quick note. Macros for actions do not work with the 'Focus' approach. E.g. if you X to focus on one mob, then switch manually to another and attempt a macro attack, it will work on the first ability, then fail on the rest.

Personally I like using R1/L1 as my target cyclers for enemies. It allows you to keep your thumb on the left stick and stay moving when necessary. My biggest grip is that when RB/LB is engaged in battle, the cycling of L1/R1 buttons is seemingly random regardless of any factors. Additionally if moving, hitting L1 will cause you to go into auto run.
If they could sort that out, and effectively treat R1/L1 as the same as Dpad left and Dpad right, then I'd be set.

Despite how awesome the gamepad use is in this game, plus all the customization, there's a sense of it being convoluted and several functions being done by different buttons making it messy.

To disable the Transparent Map, go to System > Character Config > UI > General > Map Settings > Restore map when not moving = Yes

My tip: While on Autorun: Press "X" to open map > Press "X" again to select Map, then you can use Right Stick to manipulate the map to see where you need to go. Your "You are here icon" updates in real time so I find it very handy.

Just keep in mind that doing this disables your Camera with the right stick but just press "X" again to close map and restore Camera.
