Kudos on the post. Mainly for me with targeting filters. I look forward to jumping back in and trying this out, It'll be a big time help not having to cycle through a butload of players during fate's now.

Very nice thanks
To disable the Transparent Map, go to System > Character Config > UI > General > Map Settings > Restore map when not moving = YesI'll walk you through step by step.
Press Square to open the map, if you do this while standing still, the map will become opaque, meaning you can't see the game through it, like when you're moving around. Once the map is open(And not transparent) hold the L1 button, and move the right stick up and down to zoom in and out. If your quest objective is out of your current zone, there will be the golden Q next to the appropriate zone where the objective is.
My tip: While on Autorun: Press "X" to open map > Press "X" again to select Map, then you can use Right Stick to manipulate the map to see where you need to go. Your "You are here icon" updates in real time so I find it very handy.
Just keep in mind that doing this disables your Camera with the right stick but just press "X" again to close map and restore Camera.
Papa was a rolling stone...wherever he laid his barbut was home.
Bump for sure. This thread can help lots
I actually do all these already, but I thought I would say my biggest issue is, I remapped my controller buttons so triangle is menu, again nostalgia and ease of use for me and moved map to start. However biggest problem with that is now every time I go and change my targeting to l1 triangle, it changes my targeting but also takes a screenshot at the same time lol.
Also I found the biggest help when targeting when people complain about controller targeting is I always tend to have targeting on enemies, that way left and right will target enemies, up and down on the d pad targets allies and facing a chest or NPC you need to talk to for a quest and pressing x does the action.
Thank you so much for this, I wanted to switch to controller but was finding it difficult as a dps in general. Now I can give this another go, great explanations![]()
This is the single thing I wish I had read weeks ago. Plan your level 50 bars at level 1 because when it goes wrong (and it will) in a dungeon you don't want to be fumbling around. Instead I've just had to remap everything and spend all evening grinding guildhests to re-learn my controller set up. At least if I've done it right it will be for the last time.1: Spell Apathy.
When first starting out with your gamepad. Make it a point to spread out. When you first make your character, put your sprint, chocobo, and prehaps even entire COMBO actions on another Bar entirely. No, not the L2 bar, on Set 1. But Set 2, or 4, whatever you like. This seems extremely counter-intuitive, and I agree, but one thing it does teach you, the player, is practiced intent. While this might seem like a headache at level 3, by the time you're level 50, you will be swapping bar sets instantly.
