In fights where there is a lot of dodging and movement required like Ultima weapon, monks do a lot better than BLM for example, since BLM has to interrupt his castings all the time to dodge.

Correct me if I'm wrong (and apologies if it's already been mentioned, i only really read the first 2 pages and skimmed the third), but couldn't a monk easily activate fists of wind to chase down moving monsters and keep the GL up? I've noticed that using skills while moving (while not showing most of the animation) still connect as long as you're in range, so a running battle seems plausible.
FoW enables you to not get as many "skill interrupts" yes it happens a lot to mnks since they have no range. You would start a skill then it cancels, because all calculations are applied "after" the animation.Correct me if I'm wrong (and apologies if it's already been mentioned, i only really read the first 2 pages and skimmed the third), but couldn't a monk easily activate fists of wind to chase down moving monsters and keep the GL up? But it won't help as much in running out of aoes. the dash is too long CD, and unlike drgs that can do it all, you have a time limit.
But half the time it's because most mnks are too l33t and do stupidly long rotations that will kill their grease at the first lag. A simple 1-2-3 combination will be enough to sustain grease for about 50-80% of the non-target change encounters. Sure it cuts down on damage, but grease is crazy important because right after aoe you're safe for a rotation or 2.
Seeing all those crazy mnk rotations on the board makes me wonder what kind of advice it's telegraphing to the start-up mnks...

While the nuances of effectiveness regarding each DPS class/job may be mystified still, I believe we can conclude the answer to the question posed by the OP is a resounding no. Monks are not "the weakest DPS". Not by a long shot.
At this point, I can't say there is conclusive evidence to suggest any of the DPS jobs are particularly weak, but it is evident that MNK is a staple job for sustained single-target DPS.
Given that parsers have trouble picking up actual DoT damage, the best way to measure stationary DPS presently is through the use of the test dummies, by way of determining their HP values and timing their depletion.
How the heck are you people saying Monks are worst?? Dragoon has aprox an average of 200-220 potency per attack. With a 2.5 second GCD... Monks (with optimal rotation) have an average of 176 on a 2.5 GCD. - Note that this is WITHOUT ANY damage buffs. - Basically while fully stacked up we have a 239.6 average potency on a 2.5 GCD. Then again.. i personally have 2.04 GCD.. yea.. With the repeated usage of OGCD Abilities.. yea.
Doing the math.
If all Dots and buffs are up. I come to exactly 330 potency per 2.5 seconds (-resistance debuff cause i don't know how i would calculate that)
Drg has 252 with all their dots and buffs. Of average potency per 2.5 seconds.
note: This is while EVERYTHING is going on. Like all Dots all buffs everything.
This is not 100% true but it's a rough calculation.
Now please if someone is still trying to say we are the weakest class. Please tell me a class that does 330 potency per 2.5 seconds.

Way to necro a dead thread.
Back then parsers didn't pick up DoTs very well, so the guy who recommended no Demolish or ToD was probably going off the faulty numbers parsers gave. There is no way Demolish or ToD shouldn't be used.
Not only that, demolish has since been buffed a lot to the point that it's now a MNK's strongest attack (when positioned correctly -- though possibly either way). I read two pages of this without realizing it was a necro bump and was thoroughly confused. In any case, your friend who thinks BLM has the best DPS ever might be basing that on solo play, in which case he's correct. BLM does nice damage solo or with a group, while MNK does terrible damage if the mob is facing them and incredible damage if they can position correctly and have no substantial downtime. The DPS figures stated are really out of date given gear upgrades and what not.
Fail Fail Fail! I must stop reading! OP LTP! MNK > Everything Single Target
Why is this thread still a thing?
It's so 2013....
People didn't know what they are talking about there is no need to argue whether dots are useless or not because we all know dots are amazing.
More people reading only page one and not looking at dates and quoting!!!
It is funny to read the first few pages and see how much perceptions and conventions have changed, along with actual game changes.
