The game has been out a week and Coil is starting to be cleared already. Are you seriously using the fact that pugs aren't clearing it as your argument? Back peddle some more.
Please provide source. I'm sure that weaving in touch of death, fracture and demolish which get damage increase from GL and Twin Snake is DPS gain. There is so much bad advice going out in this thread, it's incredible.
Currently monks are the best dps in the game. The trick is to stop using demolish and touch of death. I'm not kidding. There are spread sheets out there, you can look it up for yourselves. But currently monks can parse for approximately 190-210 dps in level 45 AF gear. Other classes peak at about 170..
Well that odd I ran Amdapor Keep with no dots. I did 20 more DPS then when I used dots (on last boss) according to FFXIVLog Parser. This parser does register dots....There is so much bad advice going out in this thread, it's incredible.

NO PARSER RECORDS DoTs PROPERLY.
NONE OF THEM.
Stop saying this.
DoTs(damage) are NOT in the combat log. Ever.
EVER.
You can't parse what isn't there.
Roughly 350, not including crits or Raging Strikes, every 3s from Miasma+Bio+Thunder+BioII+Shadow Flare. This is with an Ifrit weapon.

I jsut used touch of death once to see if the tick works, and it did count the ticks.NO PARSER RECORDS DoTs PROPERLY.

It will have the initial hit, but none of the tics.
This is the combat log in-game, not the parser.

The only weakness of Touch of Death is that the DoT doesn't benefit from the Dragon Kick debuff.
Let's compare your strongest combo skill to ToD:
Snap Punch from Flank with Dragon Kick debuff: 198 Potency
Touch of Death: 272 Potency (the initial hit does get the boost from DK)
Even with the Dragon Kick thing factored in, Touch of Death is still over 37% stronger than Snap Punch. That's quite a damage difference. Of course, this assumes the damage is going to sustain itself over the entire 30 second duration. When Ifrit uses Hellfire, he's invincible, so the DoT ticks will be largely wasted. Also it's not worth using on the Fetters because those should (in theory) die well under 30 seconds from when you start beating on them.
So yeah, ToD is awesome, use it.![]()
If someone wins an argument, they have learned nothing.
FOR DOCKHAND!
Guys, it's impossible to have a perfect balanced game, and of course, why would all DPS roles do same DPS ?
ALSO, please, keep in mind that Square Enix will do make some changes... on some jobs, with time. Last thing you want is leveling a job only because you think it's OP, and once you reach 50, it gets nerfed !
Lastly, it's also how you play the job. Have fun out there... I'm just sick to hear the eternal debate of wich DPS is better.
Some are specialised in Single target, others in AoE, some bring nice buffs.
FF14 gives you the opportunity to design a complex and almost unique DPS job.. build it as you feel it's right, love your creation, have fun and stop QQ about how weak you or others think you are.
My last advice is : play something you like, not something you think it's OP or popular. You need to be confortable about how you play your job, that's how you actually play that job good, and that's how you optimise your DPS role.
