    CYRUS: Recruiting Dedicated Members!

    Cyrus was founded in March 2009, and is currently playing Final Fantasy XIV.

    Website: www.cyrus-gaming.com
    Server: Cerberus

    Current Raid Recruitments:
    Group 1 (Turn 5): Currently Full
    Group 2 (Turn 5): Bard
    Group 3 (Turn 5): Black Mage

    Recruiting PvP / Social members!

    ==============
    FINAL FANTASY XIV
    ==============

    Final Fantasy XIV has come as something of a surprise to us! It is not traditionally the kind of game we would set up in, however with the absolutely barren state of good PvP MMOs out there at the moment it has made us turn to something a little bit different. We have raided before as a guild, both in Rift and World of Warcraft, however this has always been considered secondary to our PvP adventures.

    Cyrus in a Final Fantasy game? Never in a million years. Oh, wait...

    With that said, there is a lot of potential in this game. It has a long window before any meaningful competition is released (Wildstar, TESO, EQNext) and it is generally a lot of fun to play! We plan to create a non-hardcore guild and progress towards the raid content, and also keep an eye on the PvP developments coming out in later patches (Rated content AND Open World PvP? YES PLEASE!).

    As ever, we will take our endeavours in FFXIV seriously. We are a progression-based guild and always like to set new targets and objectives to work towards together. While we describe ourselves for this game as non-hardcore, this certainly isn't ever going to be a casual guild, and our normal operating rules apply - especially the usage of Teamspeak!

    We are located on the Cerberus [EU] realm.

    ============
    GUILD HISTORY
    ============

    We started life in Warhammer Online in March 2009 (originally called Exodus) and became the largest and most active Order PvP guild on the Karak-Norn server. We played a central role in co-ordinating our faction, hosting cross-alliance community initiatives to try and bring the many guilds and alliances on the server together in an attempt to take the fight to the numerically superior Destruction side.

    Cyrus in Warhammer, known as Exodus. We fought for Order on Karak-Norn.

    We later moved to Aion where we became a top 10 ranked Elyos PvP guild on the Perento server. Intending to pursue our enjoyment of PvP, we were one of the primary guilds in the early days of the game, however the severe PvE grind and lack of meaningful PvP content meant that our player base changed somewhat and we became more of a PvE guild with occasional raids in the Abyss.

    Cyrus in Aion. We fought for Elyos on Perento. We prefer not to talk about this game too much.

    In Rift we combined these two playstyles and became unquestionably the most successful and talked about PvP guild on our server, all the while maintaining competitive PvE raids that cleared all content in the game. We were yet again the leading guild when it came to organising our faction, setting up server-wide PvP events to increase participation and enjoyment for all in the game.

    Such was our success in the PvP lakes that we eventually ran out of opposition to fight against, so we transferred servers looking for new challenges. Our influence was so great that most guilds from both factions followed our move, and within a few weeks our previous server was transformed from the busiest EU PvP server to a trial realm!

    Cyrus in Rift. We fought for Guardians on Whitefall. We dominated the PvP until everyone else quit crying.

    After a brief spell in SWTOR, which was completely awful, we moved to World of Warcraft (Horde, Stormscale) in January 2012. While we obviously didn’t find any Open World PvP, we did enjoy the challenges of running three Rated Battlegrounds teams, with the occasional Raid to pass the time. During our first full Rated Battlegrounds season we managed to take a group of mostly new-to-WoW players to a legitimate 2200+ rating, something that was not so simple to do as a guild in this game.

    Eventually, having only Rated Battlegrounds was not enough to maintain our interest in WoW, and our community became frustrated and splintered. We (slightly dramatically) decided to call it a day, and now look to the future.

    Cyrus in WoW. From zero to 2200+, proving the doubters wrong!

    ===================
    WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
    ===================

    Cyrus is looking for mature, highly active and friendly players to join our ranks. In Final Fantasy XIV, we are looking to create another successful guild with solid progression and a shared objective. We want dedicated and reliable players who are in it for the end-game, but who are equally concerned with the friendships they make along the way. No elitism, no egos, and plenty of patience, reality and understanding.

    Members should be especially interested in raiding progression as well as any future PvP additions, and take the time to learn their class and skills, and how they can best benefit their guild groups. Being an excellent individual player is great, but it is far more important to be an excellent team player, to follow targets and instructions, and to know when to stop joking around and focus. Your goals should be that of the guild as a whole, not of yourself.

    Members are required to use Teamspeak and have a working microphone. We welcome members from all over the world, however we do ask that in guild chat and Teamspeak English is used at all times.

    Please read our Guild Code for further information!

    ===============
    WHAT WE CAN OFFER
    ===============

    Cyrus is a focused, progression-based guild for mature, skilled and team-orientated players. We offer Teamspeak voice communications with a family-friendly atmosphere, as well as our own website which is used to organise pretty much everything we do. We have a long-established leadership who is committed to getting the most out of our members and ensuring everyone is working towards their own and the common goals of the guild.

    We have a strong community spirit, and thanks to our successful recruitment in previous games, a very welcoming attitude towards new members of any experience level so long as they are prepared to put the time in.

    Our current ingame focus is to establish a core raiding team.

    ===========
    HOW TO APPLY
    ===========

    If this sounds like your kind of guild, then please check out our website, read our Guild Code, and feel free to apply on our forums. Please also feel free to include any questions you may have with your application.

    Thanks for reading!

    It's nice to see some familiar faces come back to us. We also looking for new members that want to be part of a community and are looking for a long term guild, not just for this game.

    I joined this FC 8 days ago, let me give you a review of my experience- I think that's only fair on a public advertisement.

    Atmosphere:
    They're currently very small, just leveling, definitely good to join if you're interested in leveling your alts, crafting, etc.
    They were fairly accepting once they were sure it was a good fit and friendly enough on Teamspeak and ingame chat.
    No banter in FC chat that I could witness.

    Dungeons:
    I only ran a few dungeons with them (Quarn, Garuda NM, AK, Stone Vigil), they were alright, some laggers but competent at low-level PvE.
    Not so good at repairing gear before dungeons.
    Had to listen to some guy reading out tactics in dungeons instead of just letting me explain them much more quickly and with easier-to-understand phrasing.
    Their only other level 50 player [who kept hounding me to take him with me on AK runs (DPS)] was a bit of a loose cannon when it came to enmity-management, but was good DPS.

    Member-interaction:
    After being in the guild with a friend (more on that shortly) for 2-3 days, we have had interaction with the existing members to the extent of helping them with dungeons and being asked to craft them things, while barely being acknowledged when logging on/off. That is to be expected though, in such a fast-paced, high-APM-game.

    Getting friends into the guild:
    I did mention in my (very lengthy) application, that I'd most likely be joining with a friend of mine who started the game with me.
    After joining, I wasn't asked my friend's name or whether they want to join now, she had to go write her own application. Application was filled out with the necessities, response was borderline ridiculous, very rude (paraphrasing: "We're only letting you in because your friend made a better impression, your application was terrible, I hope you will make more of an effort once you are in the guild").

    Leadership:
    Non-existant leadership-skills. I was banned from their forums after a discussion, where one of their members mis-understood a post of mine (he basically called me a selfish player, after I have done nothing but help out members since I joined) and approached me with very condescending demeanor. FC-leader posted in the thread, speaking to me as if he thought of me as his own personal property instead of posting some words to mediate the situation. After I tried to calmly explain, I was promptly banned from their forums and removed from the FC without a further conversation. The reason for my ban was, and I quote: "Turned out he was not so friendly. Removed from guild on 20th September for being condescending towards other members."

    Very poor for a "mature" guild, but it just goes to show that maturity is not connected to age.

    Overall:
    Join them, if you don't have a shred of dignity or self-respect, because you will be given none.
    If I had to give a score, as is usual for a review, I would award a point for not being unpleasant on voice (decent microphones, accents could be troublesome to people who don't speak Scandinavenglish).
    1/10, would not join again for money.

    Obviously this is a biased review, although I would like to point out that I am not too biased- I got literally nothing out of the guild in the short time I was a member, it is not a great loss to me. I hope this will help players decide whether it is the right guild for them or not.

    Just to reply to the 'review' above. Some of the supposedly negative comments about us I am rather proud of:

    - No banter in FC chat that I could witness

    We are a voice-comms guild, this is in our application. We don't type to each other, we talk.

    - Had to listen to some guy reading out tactics in dungeons

    Yup, discussing tactics is a bad habit of ours.

    - Their only other level 50 player

    We have several level 50 players, but yes we are recruiting more for raiding while others level up. We came to this game AFTER launch day, so have very few pre-release players.

    - a bit of a loose cannon when it came to enmity-management, but was good DPS

    This is because you insist on wearing level 46 tanking gear to spiritbond. If you can't hold aggro against good DPS, there is an issue to be resolved - not always the DPS fault.

    - while barely being acknowledged when logging on/off

    If you are on Teamspeak, as per our guild rules, you will be welcomed and can join the discussions. If you don't log on teamspeak, you are breaking our rules and will be ignored until you get gkicked for it.

    - (Friends) Application was filled out with the necessities, response was borderline ridiculous

    Your friends application was useless. If it wasn't for you being in the guild they would have been declined. Sorry for having standards and being prepared to call people out on issues.

    - Non-existant leadership-skills

    I believe kicking you from our guild was an act of leadership.

    - FC-leader posted in the thread, speaking to me as if he thought of me as his own personal property instead of posting some words to mediate the situation

    I did try to warn you that you were coming across badly, but you ignored my advice and continued to dig a hole for yourself. You were getting more and more angry in your posts, until you were removed from the guild for being a keyboard warrior and having a selfish and elitist attitude.

    - After I tried to calmly explain

    If by being calm you mean telling us that you were getting more and more irritated whilst making your position in the guild impossible, I do not accept your definition of the word "calm".

    - would not join again for money

    Typical from a member who did not choose to leave, but was kicked.

    - Obviously this is a biased review

    Finally, I agree!

    I do not believe you understand what anger looks like. I tried to explain my (very innocent) position several times, very calmly- the only irritation that was expressed by me, was saying "I am getting irritated by this". Feel free to post screenshots of the unedited discussion rather than posting lies <3

    You guys don't understand the game. I warned that I might be wearing 46++ gear (46 is the tier 3 cutoff) for spiritbonding purposes, I have never worn anything below ilvl60. Not that ilvl46 items would affect a tanks ability to maintain enmity as long as his weapon is sufficient.
    I have tried to explain this four times- you didn't want to talk to me before, I'm done responding to your childish quips now.

    Banning someone from the forums to not have to talk to them, and these responses are the level of maturity you can expect joining "Cyrus", you have been warned.

    Sorry, but I'm not having a forum war with someone. As I said, we are a voice-comms guild, and we can't cater for people who prefer to cause drama on our forums and not talk to people about it in person.

    You also chose not to mention ANY of the other issues you supposedly had with the guild until AFTER you were kicked. Surely the mature thing to do would have been to discuss these with us on Teamspeak? You could have helped us improve as a guild instead of causing problems.

    Good luck in your next guild - it's time to move on

    Recruitment Update

    Most of our previous guild members are still levelling, as they were unable to purchase the game until quite late (as I mentioned in the first post, we didn't think we would come to this game!). They should start hitting level 50 over the next 7 to 10 days. However with a few at level 50 we are starting to plan our 8 man groups and gearing progression in readiness for future content updates.

    This is a perfect time to join us if you are currently looking to farm Tomestones and start your endgame progression. If you are already ahead of us but want to join a serious, stable guild who will be raiding both 8 and 24 man content in the future (and running PvP), feel free to also apply, but you will be asked to farm with us until we catch up.

    We will run and organise three 8 man raid groups. There will be no difference in priority, and each will contain a guild officer. As things stand we will need the following classes to complete these guild groups:

    REQUIREMENTS

    Bard x 2
    Paladin x 1
    Scholar x 2
    Summoner x 1
    Warrior x 3
    White Mage x 1

    Black Mage, Dragoon, and Monk are currently not required, however feel free to apply incase our situation changes. Also feel free to apply on any class for future PvP!

    Many thanks!
