    [Suggestion] User Interface Improvements

Here are a few suggestions I have regarding improvements to the User Interface (UI):

Suggestion: UI Configurable Option - UI Size Scaling
Reason: Currently, some aspects of the UI (i.e. chat window, journal, action bar) seem bulky and somewhat detracting from the immersive graphical experience that Final Fantasy XIV is trying to present.

Proposed Solution: To remedy this, I propose that an option be introduced into the in-game configuration menu (in the form of a 'bar slider' or possibly a text input field) which allows the user to scale the entire User Interface, or seperate elements of that interface if possible, to better facilitate the visual and functional layout they prefer.

Suggestion: UI Toggle Option - Lock Action Bar
Reason: After a target is defeated, the Action Bar tends to disappear as if combat has ended. This can be a nuisance when trying to switch to a different page of the Action Bar while also switching to another enemy/target.

Proposed Solution: In order to facilitate smooth use of the Action Bar in battles involving multiple targets, I propose that an option to either lengthen the delay time for the Action Bar's disappearing or to lock the Action Bar to remain always visible be implemented.

Suggestion: UI Toggle Option - UI Lock
Reason: Sometimes the moveable portions of the User Interface may be accidentally moved (such as during combat when a large number of mouse-clicks may be registered).

Proposed Solution: To remedy this, I propose that a toggleable option be introduced in the in-game configuration menu that allows the UI to be locked in place to prevent accidental moving.

Suggestion: UI Selectable Option - Font Size of Various Elements
Reason: Sometimes font my be too large (i.e. chat/battle log) or too small (i.e. status icon tooltips) for some players.

Proposed Solution: My suggestion is to introduce configurable options in the in-game configuration menu that allows the user to configure font options and sizes for different elements of the UI.

Suggestion: New UI Element - Tooltip Mouse-Over
Reason: Currently, exact character attribute functions (i.e. Piety, Strength) may be somewhat elusive, especially for new players. Additionally, an issue which causes the game to crash after being minimized in full-screen mode complicates the issue for players trying to search for this information on online sites.

Proposed Solution: In order to ameliorate this issue, I propose that Tooltips be implemented to various items (especially Attribute menu items) which allows for users to see additional information about the menu item when their mouse pointer hovers over it.

Also, in the case of Attribute menu items, I additionally propose that Formulaic information be displayed for attributes in order to better help more advanced players understand the relation between allocated points and the attributes which are affected.

Thank you for any consideration regarding this suggestions.

Would be nice to toggle on/off the Attack/Items/Emotes/Menu bar. I see no point in it if you use gamepad.
For players who caped their levels option to toggle on/off Rank and Physical Levels bar would be neat too.

Action Bar still the most confusing UI element, in my opinion.
Every time you switch from Action Bar to Macros, game reset your selection on Action Bar.
Sometimes there's an issue when 2 elements on Action Bar is highlighted (selected).
And as Verecund mentioned, every time you defeat a Mob - unspeakable terror happens to Action Bar.

While casting a spell on enemy NPC, you usually getting ready for next move and choose next spell.
In this case Stamina Gauge for currently casting spell disappears.
Also when spell casting fails you get tiny sound and notification in Log, probably a visual effect would nice too.

There’s way too many steps in Logging In and Out interface.
And every keyboard/gamepad player have to pass "Delete Character" option while attempting to Log Out.

Would be nice to have an option to toggle on/off your own character name on screen.

    Bump.

    Just teasing.
I apologize for bumping an older thread but I felt that Mocchi’s post fit the best here since a few of the suggestions that Verecund brought up will be addressed.

It also seems as though you guys don't have a problem with the casting bar location, or I'm just really bad at this search thing.

Well anyways, here's the post! Yay!

    Hello!

Currently, it is only possible to move the casting bar when it appears during casting.

As an interim resolution to this, we will be implementing a text command that will allow you to display the magic casting bar whenever you like.

    • Manually display the casting bar when you would like to move its position
    • Move the position of the casting bar
    • After moving the casting bar, switch the setting to be hidden.

By doing this, you are able to move the position of the bar and make it so the bar only appears when casting.
We will be addressing this as soon as the work is completed and we are aiming for implementation during 1.20 if possible.

This is off in the future, but we will be implementing a layout mode in the config so that you can move and resize all of the widgets straight from the config itself.

    Thanks for the feedback!

Can the devs also add a command to lock all the widgets in place? I find myself accidentally drag things like the party list around by accident.

P.S.: Another solution might be to add a "Widget Customization Mode" in config that provides a list of all the possible UI boxes and widgets to toggle on and off for you to move around. Then when you leave the mode, everything is locked in place never to be disturbed by accidental click-and-drags. I imagine this would be a good way for PS3 players to move around their widgets when the time comes as well. Although, I imagine this would probably be a big project for the UI devs.
