Rather than thinking "what's the point?", think "why not?" You're not forced to use it as a DoM, but it's there as an option. That's what the armoury system is all about; giving you options. They don't all make sense and most people under most circumstances won't utilize some options, but they're there in the rare occasion that it does help.
