Get Raging Strikes from Archer. Get Thunder from Thaumaturge. You can go by with that but later on you want to get Thaumaturge to 26 for swiftcast (will be useful for instant raise for party member who died from lack of awareness, or instant summon if needed, or instant tri-disaster in case). I can also see Quelling Strikes useful from Archer since I always get agro on Fates from Cyclops or Shiva or any NM. I believe tanks are not trying to keep agro on those Fates and since I outdamage all class, I repeat I outdamage all class, I became tank on those and it's annoying to tank when I am not tank. But most of the time, my Titan will try to grab hate. If I stop casting then my titan will get hate back. But if I keep attacking, I don't lose hate. You ask why I say I outdame all class? Simply because I am the highest in threat meter out of 20-30 people doing Fate with me and you get in threat meter due to your damage or healing. Since I don't have the need to heal then it's due to my constant DoTs and Fester.
For rotation, read post# 44-49 from this thread.

    ALWAYS, ALWAY ALWAYS ALWAYSSSSSSSS
start Bio II -> Miasma -> Bio

Always. I see so many summoners starting with other stuff.

    DON'T DO IT.

That starting rotation gets you to Fester the fastest without any GCD clipping by using an off-GCD ability while your GCD is ready, and it easily sets up your rotation/timers for the future.

Here is a general starting rotation:
Bio II -> Miasma -> Bio -> Fester during GCD(make sure to delay it a little more until the Bio debuff is present) -> Shadow Flare -> Thunder -> Ruin -> Ruin II -> Raging Strikes+Fester during GCD -> Bio -> Miasma -> Thunder -> Fester -> Bio II -> Ruin -> Shadow Flare -> Bio -> Contagion during GCD.

After that you have to let the DoTs wear off completely because you can't overwrite a RS+DoT with a normal DoT, so then just proceed to keep DoTs up. Use Ruin II when you want to use Rouse/Spur(should be on CD, but don't use until after that initial rotation. No time).

Since you're not 50(no Shadow Flare), just replace that with a ruin.

And, yes, get thunder and Raging Strikes. After that get Swiftcast, which is very useful. Instant cast battle rez, or to re-summon pets.

I may be a bit ignorant here, but short of Ruin II costing more mana... why would you choose ruin I over ruin II; short of you running out of mana?

SMN has major mana problems if you want to keep up Thunder, and at 50 Shadow Flare, while maintaining Fester use and never using Energy Drain.

A BRD does rectify this, but SMN has pretty big mana problems for the optimal rotation.

Basically, it boils down to this:
If you have time to use Ruin or Ruin II, use Ruin II only when you need to use an off-GCD skill.

Edit: This is about the ~4-5min mark that you'll start to run low without a BRD. If you ever need to re-summon your pet or battle rez, this problem is greatly exacerbated.

until parsing works properly, you can not make any such claim. you can not base such claims on threat because we do not know the base mechanics of the game well enough yet, including how square treats threat. there are abilities you can cast that do no dmage or healing initially that instantly give you threat from my observations, and there are high damage abilities when i play bard that produce little to no threat vs. the initial-no-damage application of bio 2 or miasma.

until we have the facts your claims are anecdotal at best, baseless at worst.

rotation for a dot class is always longest duration dots > lowest duration dots. no exceptions.
