Global Cool Down is technical issue

I've been playing MMORPGs obsessively since EverQuest. There has never been a GCD this ridiculous. There has never been a need for a GCD this ridiculous. I have a low opinion of modern MMORPG players in general but I don't think that they're all stupid enough or slow enough to warrant something this silly.

I hope....and there is a lot of things I hope get better with time with this game...that as you go up in level and the +skill/spell speed stuff is more common, that you eventually get down to something closer to the more typical 1-1.5s GCDs of normal MMORPGs, because I don't really want to play the kindergarten version for dummies forever.

I'm hoping this is just part of their treating MMORPG players and gamers like complete and total idiots and dumbing the game down to levels even the panda would scoff at and that the training wheels come off at some point.

C'mon man, the classes in this game are simplistic. There is very little mental agility needed to figure out which of your very few skills to use in very generic and routine battles. Is anybody REALLY using that 2.5s for intense strategizing on the fly? I freaking hope not.

I'm just glad the "you can't do anything until you're off GDC" beep the game makes is very subtle because I probably activate it 10-20x spamming keys trying to make my character do something. I want to watch the game...not watch my hotbar for 2.5s at a time waiting for something to be doable.

This for me is the biggest problem with such a long GCD. It's well outside the norm. It is a deterent to seamless play. It hinders watching the beautiful game. It crushes years and years of timing developed for games that usually have a 1.5s GCD.

It's something they did to pace out and extend combat so that lesser players could handle it easier. Except, there are no players that need this! They have designed a system for people who don't exist. Newborn don't play video games.

I think as the new game shine and smell wear off that things like this are going to get a bit more criticism.

I've been asking this for some time but haven't gotten an answer from anyone. People seem to ignore the subject on combat.

No it's a game design feature.

Can't agree more. From fights, I can only remember constantly switching from the scene to my hotbar, missing all the action.

If the GCD length is intended, at least give us a buffer feature, which will allow us to provide the next action and look away from the hotbar.

The skill speed stat reduces the cooldown, so it will be lower as you get better gear.

Ok, but how much? I and I think many more would be satisfied with 1.5 at least, even if I'm used to 1 second. Even that is turn based, I really don't see gear knocking off half of the GCD and cast times. I really don't see meaningful combat and especially pvp in the future with 3 second cast times and instants with a 2.5 second gcd. Casting an instant feels close to worthless in this game, It makes you realize how bad the gcd really is when you use an instant and have to run around like a derp waiting to do anything else.

I'm pretty sure that GCD is that high to let player who plays the game on PS3 to have time to select skills with the controller since it's not as easy as bashing buttons on a keyboard. That's why I don't like the idea of the game sharing the same servers on both platforms.

When you put it that way, I see your point. I don't know why I even bother with instant-casts at this point.

I'm sorry, but this is just inaccurate. Coming from years of MMOs on the PC to ARR on the PS3, I can tell you that the cross-hotbar with a controller is just as fast as a standard hotbar on the PC. It may take some getting used to, but it's definitely not any slower. Not to mention that it wouldn't make sense for the GCD to be high to compensate for console-gamers, considering the developers designed the cross-hotbar system to be quick. There's no point in compensating for something that they feel isn't a problem in the first place.
