They're either limiting initial log ins so the server doesnt commit suicide or the game is still borked.

yea, they said that right after maint they will restrict logins but it will be just to prevent servers from crashing after the usual "Maint over -> all login at once"

Give it a second. I'm sure there are thousands of people trying to get on right now. The server load just went from minimal to maximum load in 5 seconds. Let it breathe.

They already said they're limiting the amount of people logging in after patch so yes you'll still get the error, reading would have told both you and your friends this in advance.
