Possibility to open FFXIV up to a moddable UI?

First you should really make the distinction between UI mods that do harmless things like skinning, and UI mods that do harmful things like telling you what button to push and when (read: trivializing content).

It should be SE who makes this distinction, and they should listen to the community so people don't feel the need for unofficial UI mods, or perhaps even for official UI mods.

All this bitching about mods that tell you what to do is also uncalled for. People often complain about the UI not being polished enough, but I don't remember any folks asking for anything even close to the game telling you what to do.

The way wow works is they allow users to make their ui the way they want. IF someone wants everything in the middle of the screen thats okay. If someone wants nothing showing thats great. If someone wants only there map showing thats great. Don't mind the trolls saying no because the truth is its a win win situation. Every single player in ffxiv history would be able to create their own ui.

Since most of us come from FFXI, where endgame required only the ability to read log and strategy, an opening to wild modding it's a no-no. If they open to a cosmetic change for HUD, it's pretty welcome

Please read the thread, people already suggested that it may only change the look and positioning of the UI and not the functionality.

The PS3 can use addons for other games also, and it also has a web browser which you can download with, as long as the plugins are compatible with the PS3 game engine there is nothing stopping the PS3 users getting addons as well.

This is so true, see it as downloadable content (possible for free since it might be community built / designed)

There have been direct references to mods in WoW that sound warning bells and tell you exactly what buttons to push when. Those are what we do not want. Pure Aesthetic mods...? I'm sure most people wouldn't have a problem with.

Truthiness. I don't have any problem with aesthetic mods; I just don't want mods that alter gameplay.

I'm all for aesthetic UI modding, LOtrO skins were really awesome and so are the AoC ones, scripted modding is what I'm a little less enthused about I'd rather we make the suggestion to SE to change some aspects of the UI then have to install player made mods for them. Mods that may or may not be supported forever.
