If people don't like mods, they don't have to use them. I love mods and fully support the idea of this feature in FFXIV. Mods are everywhere nowadays, people love to customize.

Let's use FFXIV as an example of this, since both games share some of the design team (iirc FFXIV has some old XI devs), we can likely expect similar boss designs. So, how would boss mods have helped whatsoever in FFXI? They wouldn't have. The bosses were very easy (with a few exceptions) and mostly just consisted of stunning a long cast, standing on feet or under wings, or controlling adds. Bosses weren't as hard scripted as they are in WoW where you have boss mods. In WoW you don't even need boss mods even, if you know the intervals between abilities it's easy to know when what is coming. FFXI, and probably FFXIV are/wont be designed that way. Or at least I hope they aren't, I preferred the XI boss design personally.

If you don't want to be required to use boss mods, then don't play with the people that require it. If they're going to break a friendship because you wont use a video game mod then maybe that's their loss. I've never been "required" to use boss mods in all of my gaming career and I played WoW for over 6 years and FFXI for even longer. So maybe you're playing with the wrong crowd.
