Oblivion is adding its mods to ps3 and xbox 360. it can be done, but its harder. Heck I just want to change the color of the UI. And what's wrong with looking at health bars, in XI thats all I looked at lol.

What we're worried about is that we'll see a situation in FFXIV like we do in WoW with the "Gear scores" and "Deadly Boss Mods". Many people consider these UI mods mandatory for participation.
Yeah, yeah, I know we don't *have* to use them, but the fact that so many people believe the game cannot be played without them takes a lot away from those of us who are satisfied with the default UI.
I would really like to see fully customizable and mod-able UI. But just the UI! I honestly wouldnt mind seeing actual mods themselves put into the game aka DBM, but I also see the problem they would bring with them being so dominate like in other MMOs. So I would really like customizable UI but wouldnt really care either way on mods.
Pluggin this thread because I think Laughlyn's idea's are awesome.

I just want the like 3-5 different colors for the UI that we got from XI. I hate the color blue, my whole god damn UI is blue.
I definitely agree, I don't want to have that "mandatory" junk like you do on WoW. SE can find a way to regulate and keep stuff like that from happening. Not to mention the community is responsible for that as well. The players in WoW allowed that to happened. If people refused to buy into the bs that is Gear Score and Deadly Boss mods, then they wouldn't be the big addons that they are today. I would like to think that our community will collectively say "NO" to using mods of that nature.
It is all about finding a good balance between the two. Because, I really want addons for FFXIV. Maybe I got spoiled when I started playing WoW lol. I want to be able to streamline the UI to fit my specific playing style. That is one of the things that WoW has done very well. I'm sure that WoW isn't the only game that has UI that you can mod, but it is the only one that I have played that I knew that I had the option. Anyhoo, you didn't have to conform you playing style to the UI, I really like that. I've seen people play all sorts of weird ways in WoW and it works for them. I would really like to say the same thing about FFXIV.
But, I also don't want FFXIV to be a clone of any MMO. So, the dev team is going to have to be careful on their decision. I hope that when they make their decision on issues like this and others, that they stand their ground. I really don't want them to cave in on our every want and desire. They need to at least keep some artistic integrity lol.
yoshi has stated in many interviews that he greatly supports UI mods.
We are talking about skins that change the look and position of the UI , not changing the way they work, there is a pretty big difference. What we're worried about is that we'll see a situation in FFXIV like we do in WoW with the "Gear scores" and "Deadly Boss Mods". GearScore was never mandatory. In WoW, while a group is assembling a player is in direct competition with other players for spots. If a pool of players available allows for a steeper gear/knowledge requirement then what is actually required for the run then why not take advantage? Players forming groups often check armory or others in game that do not have GearScore and allowed them into groups.
So what if you don't get a spot, that didn't ever make GearScore mandatory for participation. All it did was make the player aware that a more advanced player pool exists. One that will ignore players until they put in the time to get caught up.
Don't bother bringing up that GearScore is a poor indicator of Knowledge/skill/or gear choice. it is a well know fact and is just a tool for estimates before proper inspection or viewable performance. If you know in your heart that you can compete, it is on you to show the community by putting forth the effort.
Deadly boss mod takes information that is already available in game and smash's it in front of players. Not mandatory just easier for some players. Some will argue that it makes the game to easy but i disagree. Text in a combat log is no different then text anywhere else which is no different then someone giving directions on vent. Same information just a different delivery system.
If you are behind the curve, play with others in the same situation.
If you can figure out how to do a fight/coordinate with teammates through default delivery systems then do it. If people in your group need you to have to mods so that they can do their job, find new people or help them out by getting it.
I don't feel like what i have said is elitist or rude. I think often community members take out frustrations on things like GearScore, combat logs, or W/E because it is easier then examining the true cause of their frustration.

I'm not sure how opposed SE is to this, some people claim to remember Tanaka saying something in favor of it, but I remember the opposite. Anyways, I think it would be in the game's benefit to do something like Blizzard does with WoW. I know that's on the extreme end but with proper maintenance they can allow and disallow whatever they want. By locking people into a specific UI without customization, it causes players to look at third party overlays to simulate the addons. Things like windower, apradar, etc.
I think provided proper moderation, a fully customizable UI is the best option. If they don't want damage meters or boss mods, they could easily remove the ability to make such things. Blizzard does it, both games use LUA.
However, I'm not sure how any of this would work with the PS3. Although, I suppose there's nothing wrong with the two versions of the game being slightly different.
Wow disallows GearScore now, and DBM is never "required" unless you're incapable of playing without it. If you raid and you start wiping the group because you can't grasp game mechanics, you'll generally be asked to download DBM. Personally, I haven't used boss mods since TBC and I did fine in the very successful guilds I was in. "Many people" consider them mandatory, but most people won't notice you're not using them unless you fail.Originally Posted by Eekiki

From what I understand it's not currently possible because the UI is all bound server side, unless they make the entire UI client side I doubt we will be seeing UI mods for a while as it's a pretty large undertaking to do that.
