Well, it will be interesting to see how you do this without ruling out or dealing massive disadvantages to the PS3 customers.

Please read the thread, people already suggested that it may only change the look and positioning of the UI and not the functionality.
The PS3 can use addons for other games also, and it also has a web browser which you can download with, as long as the plugins are compatible with the PS3 game engine there is nothing stopping the PS3 users getting addons as well.

This is so true, see it as downloadable content (possible for free since it might be community built / designed)

The "trolls" are against addon like deadly boss mod, which in time they are marked as mandatory for every endgame guild.
Since most of us come from FFXI, where endgame required only the ability to read log and strategy, an opening to wild modding it's a no-no. If they open to a cosmetic change for HUD, it's pretty welcome
Yup, this right here ^^
There have been direct references to mods in WoW that sound warning bells and tell you exactly what buttons to push when. Those are what we do not want. Pure Aesthetic mods...? I'm sure most people wouldn't have a problem with.

This is the most naive response ever. And it gets really old listening to people spout it over and over, since it's not a valid argument.
If meters and the like are ever introduced, it is inevitable that they will eventually become "required" by group leaders to do anything in endgame. I personally don't give a rat's petuli if people want to trivialize content by using these, but the very existence of them negatively effects others who do not want to trivialize content.
I understand you 100%, I hate when I am forced at gunpoint to join guilds who use UI mods too.
I also hate that I am so dumb that I don't see that if UI mods became the norm for endgame activities it must mean that the game's UI is not good enough.
