    [Suggestion] Conditional Cutscene Skipping

I've read a lot of grief on reddit about some impatient players getting upset with those who want to enjoy the story, some even grief players for "taking too long" while enjoying your masterpiece of a story.

I would like to suggest a conditional cutscene skip option.

If one player in the party has not seen the cutscene, no one can skip it. If every player in the party has seen it, everyone is allowed to skip. This should not be too hard from a programming perspective, since there must be a flag stored in your character database in order for it to show up at the inn.

I'd also like to suggest auto-advance for ALL of the multi-player cutscene story elements, and not just some. This way, every player's cutscene will end at nearly the same time, with negligible timing differences between users (maybe a few seconds for slower machines).

This would alleviate most, if not all drama caused by those who are too impatient to allow others to enjoy the storyline.

It sounds like you generally wouldn't be able to skip at all, then, because I doubt many players who have gone through a part of the story would have a great incentive to repeat a boss or dungeon unless they're helping a friend to clear it. And there are those players who have a habit of only ever seeing the cutscene in the inn. They will want to skip even the first time.

Honestly, I don't see this as an issue that should be fixed with programming. It's more of a community / player culture issue, and the simple resolution is for people to just live with how other people approach the cutscenes. The only time it actually becomes a game mechanics issue is if combat autoinitiates on cutscene end.

From what I have been reading, some have ran up and started the battle while others are still watching the cutscene. For example, say your tank and DPS skipped, but the healer is watching. The tank is impatient and runs up to the monster. They all get wiped, and then blame the healer for watching the cutscene. I agree it is a cultural issue, but the reason I suggest a 'conditional' is mainly for end-game. While I am not there yet, I hear many like to re-run end-game dungeons and bosses with their FC mates, which have all likely done it at least once. If you are re-running for gear, the skip is a great option.

I've personally never had this problem. I've been lucky in the fact that the members I group with are polite. I posted this here because I commented on reddit, and was asked to post it as a suggestion to Square Enix.

I think if we could have an option in the Duty Finder that about if u accept to skip cutscenes or not, so that it will group ppl who want to see the cutscenes together while others who wish to skip them together.

    Everyone is happy.

This is even better, it could even auto-skip for those who choose to join the 'skip' groups.

Although the only problem I see with this is, what if everyone chooses skip? Then those who choose not to want to will have to wait longer, or forever.

well, the non-skipping ppl always be able to join the "skip" side and watch them later in their inn room. in this case since they were obviously in the minority group, it is more appropriate for them to fit the need of the majority group which is to skip the cutscenes for a faster run.

and the right of watching cs during the process were never hurt, if they were willing to wait - just like they make others to wait for them nowadays.

How about people just stop being dicks?

It takes all of a few seconds to wait for someone to finish watching a cut scene. It is not the end of the world.

Is this actually even possible? As far as I'm aware, every time I've zoned in to any of the dungeons/instances I've been in, I've been confined to a small circular area until everyone has completed watching cutscenes.

It is. I've been in a party in Toto-rak where the tank charged in to fight the last boss while a DPS were watching cutscene for around half the fight or more. Fortunately, we didn't wipe despite. So far I've only seen the 'lock' of a circle in the beginning of a dungeon. Not when meeting bosses.
