Yes, that is no problem. You can use it all you want until you turn it in, then it will be taken away from you though.

So at what point do you lose the weapon. This isn't very clear. How long do you use the "unfinished" weapon and the crafted/bought one?

Trying not to spoil the experience and create a step by step guide, hence my lack of indepth detail. You lose the precursor when you double meld it with materia and hand it into the NPC. You get it back when you need to fight Hydra and co.

I've had this guide bookmarked for a while. Thank you so much for this in depth list it helps a lot! I'm still really confused on the status of AK. I'm one that hates to skip steps. So I'd want to get the armor sets in order. iLvl 50 set to ilvl 60 set etc. etc. But the dungeon with the ilvl 60 set is AK. This makes it looked like to do it in order I'd want to farm AK right after I get my AF. But everything I've heard and read says do AK DEAD DEAD DEAD last. It's where you get the tokens for the ilvl 90 stuff and it's hard as heck and has a long queue. So I really shouldn't touch it until I've cleared almost everything else. Am I being forced to skip a tier and some how get the crafted ilvl70 set?

Is there any other way outside AK (and crafting) to get the ilvl 60 set?

It's really up to you. I personally prefer to skip the AK gear and just farm it for ATM and ATP. If a piece drops and I like the stat distribution, then win, but I don't consider it one of the essential sets. For me, it goes Artifact > Darklight > Artifact2.

As far as I am aware, there is no other way to get an ilvl 60 set.
